Yes, the old cobblestone was so great ; and the radioactives green for the grass was so nice !! I think its mostly nostalgia, i also believed that old texture was good when i replayed old minecraft well... after that, i think the current version is so much better

Fun fact: if you buy the old textures pack and apply it to your world, you can actually see the old looks of some new blocks. For example, the smiting table just looks like a retexured crafting table. (I think it's only in bedrock, and I'm not sure if anything changed)

I think they both have their pros and cons. I like some of the newer textures and some of the older textures over their counterparts. If I could I would make a texture pack with my favorite of all the textures for blocks

For Coal, I prefer the new design because the coal pieces are more defined, and for Lapis, yeah same I hate both but if I had to pick I'd say new because they got rid of a lot of that mysterious yellow stuff, like what IS that? For the iron block, I do see a SLIGHT change, it looks shinier if you REALLY squint, and it looks like it has more shading, so I'll pick the new one. For Gold, I actually love both textures but I'll pick new because it's shinier and it also just looks a bit more realistic. For Diamond, I didn't even know it was a controversial decision to say that you prefer the new one, I do too. Same points as you made, really, but also the same points as the points I made for gold blocks. The old gold and diamond blocks to me also just kind of look like they were just iron blocks with their respective colors painted over the blocks. For emerald, they're both good, but I'd go with old because it looks more valuable, I think they should've just made it pop more for the new textures.
