The 1982 Grey Cup was played at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto, during a pounding rainstorm. Only one side of the stadium had a roof; everyone else was soaked. They had to go under the stands and watch the game on TV! The sellout crowd of 54,000 screamed, "WE WANT A DOME! WE WANT A DOME!"

As someone who has had Buffalo Bills Season tickets since 2018 I will say most of the people who argue that Buffalo needs a dome have never experienced a snow game in person. The two best games I’ve ever been to were the Blizzard game against the Colts in 2017 and the Perfect Game against New England in the playoffs those games are not as fun without the weather.

The Vikings didn’t have a roof and went to 4 Super Bowls. Granted they lost all 4 but they were a great team that won consistently. What happens? They move in to a dome, are occasionally good but have not even sniffed a Super Bowl appearance since then. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.

A topic I’d love to see you cover. I’ve always wanted to see every team have a Super Bowl hosting. Not the same 5-6 cities all the time. Was amazed they held XLVIII in a cold weather city outdoors. Gotta believe if the game itself wasn’t a blowout (rare these days) it’d be at least considered. Sure it’ll take three decades to get everyone an appearance but it would be awesome as a fan to see. At least that’s how I think about it. EDIT: grammatical errors

Football is a winter sport by design, it was always supposed to be played in mud and snow. Bears season ticket holder here and I love the freezing cold games. Want your warm corporate club seat? Get stuffed. Leave it for the real fans. It's the desert teams (Vegas, Arizona) that need the domes for cooling, as otherwise the players can't actually play.

The one thing I never liked about the Louisiana Superdome is that it gets no natural light at all. It's like every game is being played in the middle of the night. It's also nearly 50 years old now. You can renovate and re-renovate as much as you want, but the core facilities must be pretty dated by now.

I agree with the Twins' owner who said, "The only way to save Metropolitan Stadium is to tear it down and rebuild it, one section at a time." If I had owned the Twins, I would have said to the Vikings, "Sayonara! You can have your dome!" I would have rebuilt Metropolitan Stadium, one section at a time.

I went to MetLife Stadium last Friday and it was freezing…the biggest problem is that the stadium is a wind tunnel. The exterior walls are hallow. Wind enters the stadium unobstructed. When it is cold outside, the added wind makes it feel like a polar bear exhibit at the zoo. The old Giant Stadium had solid walls and the wind problem was this bad. The aluminum exterior seems to draw air into the concourses with their many holes and empties into the stands. Also, if you look closely, you can see the upper deck is separated from the rest of the structure…the can see the outside through the end zones. After traveling to other NFL stadiums, I can say that there is no saving this billion-dollar fail.

Bills fan here and season ticket holder. Obviously everyone sees the snow we get but realistically, the Bills only use their stadium 8-12x a year (the building only gets used maybe 5x more per year) so the cost of doming a stadium that isn't used that often makes the cost too much. Plus, its a pretty big advantage for the Bills to play a playoff home game in the elements esp against a southern team. (Miami). Honestly, the worst part is the wind. Apparently the new stadium will have some sort of wind screen. Without wind, a really cold game, isn't that bad. The playoff game against NE a few years back, i think the temperature was like 3 degrees Fahrenheit. No wind so it could have been much worse.

Buffalo and Green Bay consider the elements in December to be a 12th man. They love seeing the southern/dome teams come to town and freeze their cajonies off… while the Bills fans cheer in the stands shirtless…. Personally, Phoenix needs the dome in the late summer (120 degrees is cooking people).. Miami swealters in teh summer.. but again, weather can be your friend too.. Met Life needs a roof just to keep the field from becoming a swamp with 2 host teams… but for the most part.. NFL should not need a roof.. they don’t stop play because of the elements.. (Unlike MLB)… Hell, I think a few NFL teams should be playing in non-texas HS stadiums.. (sorry, Allen HS in Allen TX is better than some pro and college stadiums)… sick of pro-teams holding their fan base hostage for the fans to beuild them their sweetheart homes… Need to go back to the days when pro-teams either rented what the city had or build it themselves..

I'm surprised that Cincinnati wasn't talked about. To me that's the line where a dome stadium makes sense. I've been to many Bengals games and once it gets to single digits with the wind coming off the river. I always end up hiding out at the team store by halftime. Plus tickets are so much cheaper in the winter.

Weather plays an important factor in football. Usually teams who are used to playing in inclinmite weather have the advantage and that was sure as shit true for the New England Patriots. No need for a dome in Foxboro but the Northern Midwest is another story. If the Green Bay Packers and their fans are fine with it more power to them.

I think Seattle needs to move back into a dome and build a new Kingdome. It just rains too much up there to be playing outdoors. Miami should get one, ever since they redid their stadium it feels almost like a dome anyways when it's not super hot outside. I would consider one for one of the two New York teams in the future as well to host Super Bowls and other major events. I do like the elements and outdoor football, but some teams need domes.

Depressed Ginger. Love your content! You did make a big issue earlier about how NFL will not come to cold weather cities despite a roof because the fans want to come where there is golf and warm weather during their stay. I am in the group that believes almost all stadiums should have a roof. I also may be in the minority but I think it’s way past time to make snow games a thing of the past. That is one tradition I do not care for at all and needs to completely fade into history. Traditions change and they sometimes come to an end and new ones can always be created. It’s happened many times in the past. Some good and others not so. I think this would actually be a good change although not everyone will agree with me and I am completely aware of that. Not only should this change be done in the NFL. It should also be done in college as well. The reason why is because during the winter, even though the players don’t actually feel despite wearing short sleeves in the cold, they’re still not safe from getting frostbite. Those could be very dangerous. During the summer, we have the opposite problem. It gets real hot in the summer and everyone is at risk of a heatstroke whenever we have 100 degree weather. That too can be dangerous. Both problems can have a negative impact on the games. That’s why I’m a proponent of all stadiums having a roof dome or retractable whether it’s football, baseball, or any other sport that’s played outdoors. Regardless if a roof is retractable or a dome, there should be someway to allow plenty of natural light to come in during the day so it doesn’t always appear to be midnight like it does in the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans and this video also mention that (and that really should change too). I may be asking for too much and yeah this change obviously unlikely to happen mainly because a lot football fans are what I like to call purists

Denver could really use a roof for those frigid games. Remember the Mile High Miracle in 2013 vs the Ravens? The game started at 17°f and ended in the low single digits. The frozen ground caused the Broncos kicker to miss a field goal, costing them the game. It happens in Denver more than a lot of people care to admit, I lived there from 2006-2012. And those weather problems will sometimes fall on a Sunday. So they would get some use out of a closed roof, especially if they want to host a Super Bowl in February, when the average low there is in the teens.
