So, as a Packers fan, I’m going to push back on the “Packers are the best at drafting in the 1st round narrative.” Don’t get me wrong. We draft pretty well, and most importantly, we avoid busts and wastes of major draft capital (i.e. Mitchell Trubisky, Trey Lance, Bryce Young). But we are not getting consistent Pro Bowlers in the 1st round. That is something the Dallas Cowboys have mastered. Their list of recent 1st-round draft picks reads like a Pro Bowl roster. I think where the Packers really excel is at drafting in the 2nd round and later. So many impact players in the later rounds: Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, David Bakhtiari, Micah Hyde, Davante Adams, Aaron Jones, Elgton Jenkins, Romeo Doubs, Zach Tom, Rasheed Walker, Jayden Reed, Tucker Kraft, Dontayvion Wicks, and Carrington Valentine.

Very True! If you look at the picks before Gutekunst stepped in, the first round was oftentimes pretty bad except for 2009. The difference between the Panthers and the likes of the Chiefs, Bills and Ravens is down solely on poor coaching and poor ownership. They are the best at filling the NEED of each position but fail to make progress once they’re drafted. The 3 teams I mentioned not only have better coaching but have QB’s that are consistent. Notice how the Panthers drafted a different position between 2017-2023

The question isn't which player do you want on your team for 4 years, the question is which player do you want to offer a 4 year contract (at the specific pick valuation). When you see these flashy picks in the first round, it's more about talent acquisition and hope for potential. The more important decision is how confident are you that this player will perform at or above the value of the pick and are you willing to give him a fully guaranteed 4 year contract.

Drafting isn’t the problem. Development is actually the bigger issue. In addition too often what is considered common sense is actually opposed to what has been well documented. Outside of the QB it has been well documented the elite teams in the NFL have a top notch OL with depth and a elite SR/TE as your primary receiving target. Yet for some reason its pretty much expected that 3 WR’s will be picked in the top 10 despite the fact you have a generational TE receiving prospect and one of the best OL classes. So good luck.

I'm starting to believe 99% of the issue is the teams management and factors like location and of course coaching and money. Like some of these players that are like hof caliber on a good team probably would get kicked out on a bad team after 3 years and blamed for all their issues when they're too cheap to hire an actual coach who's coached anything before or draft/pick up linemen or a legit reciever. And there's so many what if players that just went to shitty situations and flamed out, like guys who had all of it but no matter what they did it was futile

I think the flaw with the pff article is that they were specifically looking at the quantity of first round accolades instead of individual draft stats. Carolina for instance probably made the list because they have been a mediocre team at best for so long that they have constantly gotten higher first round picks which are more likely to make accolades, along with this, the same argument of mahomes to the chiefs can be made about if stroud went to carolina, like stroud had two bonefied pro bowl level wide outs in dell and collins, a pretty good tight end in shultz, and singletery who had a breakout year. Personally i dont think Stroud would have been nearly as good if hes having to pass the ball to adam thielan

"Cheap owners" aren't a factor one can claim in regard to picking players from free agency or drafting. One, drafted players depending on the # of the pick already has a pay grade scale written in stone. Two, owners do not collect any of the unused salary cap that is not used for their team. Matter of fact, there is a floor that teams must spend each season of the allotted salary cap! Owners do keep money from parking, ticket sales, and concessions sold at their home games that is shared at a certain percentage with the away team!
