Finally, a comparison video that is organised and easy to follow. I watched like 10 comparison videos and they either had two or three standard notebooks to compare and only talked about them, without showing the bleed/ghosting issues. Those that did write in them to show bleeding/ghosting only used one pen. Thank you, Amanda, for taking the time and showing relevant information! I'll be taking your suggestions when I finish with my bullet journal.

I have the artist loft notebook and my SIL has the Leuchtturm. The paper feels exactly the same! The only difference between the two appears to be a pocket in the back. I highly recommend the artist loft one if you're looking for a bargain notebook. The bleed through for the Leuchtturm shown in this page is exactly what I experience in my artist loft notebook.

I love L1917 because the paper, while thin, is actually really good. I am not bothered by ghosting, which is not actually terrible if you don't use heavy pens anyway, but the most important thing for me is that Leuchtturm paper works beautifully with fountain pens. For example, Lemome has very thick paper, but fountain pen ink feathers and spreads quite a bit on it. L1917 can handle even a fairly wet medium nib, no problem- fountain pens write like butter on Leuchtturm paper.

I have been using the Michael's Dot Journal by Artist's Loft, that I bought last week for about $5 (US). It is a little shorter & wider (6"x8") than the Leuchtturm 1917 and is also 80 gsm. It also has 249 pages, but the pages are white rather than cream. The pages aren't numbered, but it does have a 4-page, pre-printed index. It doesn't have a pocket in the back, but it's easy enough to add an envelope with some tape adhesive. If you are new to bullet journalling or just want to save on supplies, I strongly recommend it. (They also have grid & lined journals if you prefer those.)

So many thank yous to all of you journalers out there who have caused more and better notebooks to appear on the market. I don't really do a Bujo with anything fancy, it's just a list of todos in a cheap half size Walmart mid size notebook, usually something under $3. I'm a math person though and I love to have a softcover dot grid in a b5 size for notes. But, MY DREAM notebook is a dot grid (5x5 mm) letter size with 85 gsm (or better) and with more than 79 sheets of paper. Maybe Exceed or Mead will get the hint!

Hey Amanda! Could you do an updated version of this? It would be interesting to see how much each company has changed their notebooks and if the winners still stand^^
@hhmmhmhm57436 жыл бұрын
See, the problem I've heard a lot of people bring up that no reviewers talk about is the spine. I've heard that with some of these notebooks the threading loosens, the pages fall out, and the spine itself falls apart, all after a short time of use. It's difficult to predict whether this will happen or not, so you kind of have to try it out and see for yourself.
@Heygladys6 жыл бұрын
I had a Leuchtturm for more than a year now and it did not happen for mine :)
@hhmmhmhm57436 жыл бұрын
I've heard a lot of good things about Leuchtturm, so that's good. One that I've heard loses pages easily is the Lemome, however. Just gotta do research.
@auksebarak7606 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I've had a Lemome for about 4-5 months now (lots of use and I just drop it in my bag, and mine's a softcover), but the pages are sturdy as ever. I do not really like the notebook tho, because a) the paper is a pretty intense cream colour, and more importantly b) it does NOT handle fountain pen ink well at all. Leuchtturm has way thinner paper but holds up beautifully to pretty wet fountain pens, while Lemome paper makes the ink feather and spread. So if you use fountain pens, I'd stay away from Lemome.
@carriem47016 жыл бұрын
I like the Leuchtturm, but the Ghosting is less than desireable :(
@Onehallofacreation6 жыл бұрын
I love my Lemome. This is my second one. I had the hard cover last year, never had any problems with the pages. It lays flat almost instantly from the first day you open it. I have the soft cover this year and I broke the spine in before using it just to be cautious since it’s soft cover. There is a video on how to properly break your spine in to avoid that but I don’t remember who posted it.

Muji sells two dot grid, spiral-bound notebooks, with no extra features (one has a clear, plastic cover, and the other has a thick craft/card cover) for under $10 - where I live (Australia), they were about $6-8. I'm pretty sure the paper quality isn't as good as most of the ones you've listed, but still pretty decent and fountain-pen friendly, but I think they're good choices for people who aren't sure if bullet journalling is for them since they're so cheap. $20 for a notebook (more like $30 where I live) was pretty steep for something I wasn't sure I was going to like. I have one but gave up on bullet journalling pretty quickly, and now I have a nice quality notebook for $8.

The Lemome seems so nice! But I have used around 200 pages for my 2017 Bullet Journal (well, I started it in December of 2016, but still). As the Lemome comes with 180 pages I'm afraid I will lack some space. I will see what I do next year as I have switched from 2 notebooks to 1 this year (a bullet journal + a regular notebook for braindump, other type of notes that took 1 to 2 pages here and there in my bujo last year, etc.) Has anyone used a Lemome for bullet journaling before? What are your thoughts on it? Thanks :)
@annamiitchcreates6 жыл бұрын
Hey Glad I use a Lemome and love it! On Amazon it is currently a LOT cheaper than in the video- the black one is around 12.99 and the brown one is 16.99 I think? It barely ghosts at all, and the only time mine has ghosted is when I use a heavy amount of ink (and even then, it’s not bad). The paper is slightly off white, which at first bothered me because I wanted a bright white but it’s not really noticeable unless you hold it right next to a bright white piece of paper haha. The cover holds up very well, the sides of my book have become slightly scuffed due to my own bad care (oops) but the cover and spine are both intact. I’d really recommend it! Hope I helped, I know this comment is pretty late haha

I am not sure if it’s extremely comparable but if you are looking for a cheap dotted notebook try minimalism art. You can get it on amazon for $10 - $11 bucks. No index or page numbers. However there are tons of options on amazon with dotted notebooks and you can figure out what you want and willing to pay for. One that comes with a bookmark and pocket was essential dot matrix. I am new to Bujo so I wanted to buy something on the cheaper side also I have this weird fear of messing up something that’s more money.

I think she portrayed the Rhodia okay. At its price it's decent, but in terms of ghosting performance a few other brands out-compete as Rhodia is only 90 gsm, which places it among the top for paper thickness, but still not the best. I've also come to agree with another reviewer that recently went through a bunch of A5 journals on Amazon and found that while paper thickness wasn't everything, it's still the best consumer predictor for anti-ghosting. I also probably would've eliminated Olive and Archer from the list, as I think 160 gsm is for artists. That said, I still like Rhodia's notepads for their distinctively yellow color. I would definitely recommend Rhodia's notepads for people in software or design.

Thank you so much! ❤️ However, I have to warn: different lots of the same notebooks have different level of dot darkness. I’ve experienced it with moleskine. The first one was light-dotted so I decided to use it in the following year. But the next one had very dark dots. So I guess it also depends on the printer that they currently use.

The Rhodia webnotebook is amazing. I love the Clairfontaine paper and it tolerates most inks quite well! The paper is smooth to write on and nice to the touch. I’ve used this for both my bullet journals so far (:

I just want to say that your videos are incredibly helpful, you really go above and beyond to make sure we get all of the information in an easy to understand matter. The charts were sooo helpful thank you so much. It really shows how much you care about your viewers and their ability to actually follow along with all of this. Videos like this can be hard to follow when so many things are being reviewed at once, but you made it easy with a chart and breakdown at the end. Love your videos:)

So I've realised that paper by fabriano doesn't ghost at all
@9210musiclover6 жыл бұрын
Ishita Shailesh i have a fabriano grid notebook in a4 and it supports(?) the stabilo boss pastel highlighter and i can tell that they bleed a lot in common papers. But i dont know if there is a fabriano dotted notebook, if there is one that would be so cool.

I finally got myself a lemome a few weeks ago! Glad I chose that and not the Leuchttrum. And after finishing a month of a draft exercise book for bujo I have moved onto Lemome for April, can't wait to do my May spread/layouts.

The Rhodia is AMAZING for the longevity of your brush pens! As a calligraphy nerd I don't like a lot of bullet journal notebooks because the paper isn't smooth enough for me to use my big tombows without fraying, but the Rhodia paper quality is amazing!

I also highly recommend the Lemome. If you want the amazing paper quality and also the bells & whistles, I would check out the Lemome Bullet Journal on Amazon. It combines all of the best aspects of the Scribbles that Matter with the awesome paper quality of Lemome.

Thank you for your video, very helpful. I was using a moleskine pocket that I wasn't in love with. Dingbats pocket is my new love. Love the thickness and smoothness of the paper.
