If you are looking for an adjustable bench for your home or garage gym, there are very few, if any, better choices than the Rep Fitness AB-3000 and AB-5200. I've recently posted reviews on both of these benches, but a lot of people have emailed me asking for a comparison and wondering which they should buy.
In this video I answer that question and give a full rundown of how these two very solid benches compare and who each one is right for.

A few weeks ago I ordered the AB-3000 thinking there was no reason to spend more. Right after submitting my order I had second thoughts so I changed my order to the AB-5200. The 5200 was on sale ($469) bringing the price difference to $169 all with free shipping. No regrets at all!

Great review, thanks for posting! Few quick comments from my experience with the 3000: 1. I personally haven't noticed any sliding, with the bench on horse mats. This thing is HEAVY. I can't imagine 120 lbs! 2. I store my bench vertically. I wrap the bottom of the ladder with a small bungie cord to keep it in place. Works great, doesn't look great ;) 3. I bought this for the decline ab work. regular decline sit ups as well as rotational decline work (I throw shot put and discus). That was the decider for me, over the 5200 for instance. 4. I bolted foot holders in their "farthest out" position. Plenty of room for my big calves/legs, but would be nice if I could fold back them back in when done, to save some space in my small garage. However v2 solved that problem of course haha.

Great feedback! I love the DIY modifications, I wish I had that imagination and patience. The V2 benches are certainly solid improvements, but wait until you see the Blackwing bench they have coming! I can't wait to get my hands on it. I'm already 90% that it will be my new bench. gymcrafter.com/recommends/rep-blackwing-bench/

@@GymCrafter I know right?? The Blackwing checks all the boxes. Rep I think is the #1 bench manufacturer right now, better even than Rogue. And love the color choices! Cheers

I just ordered the AB-3000, I noticed they changed the material to the same grippy one as the 5200. I wanted to do decline so it was the obvious choice.

Have you looked at the Rep AB-3100 V3 bench? It seems that it resolved a lot of the issues that you had with the 3000 and costs less.
@GymCrafter
@GymCrafter 3 жыл бұрын
I did look at that. It's a lighter weight ab5200, basically. No decline, but otherwise it does address a lot of the shortfalls of the 3000. For me, I wanted the beefier build and stability of the 5200, but for someone on a budget I love the 3100 as an option.

my question is,,im trying to decide the ab3000 2.0 is 319 now and can be used for decline..the ab5200 is 449 and the ab5000 zero gap is 449 on sale,, but the leg add on is 109 for the 5000
@GymCrafter
@GymCrafter 11 ай бұрын
If you need/want the leg rollers, that rules out the ab5200. I had the AB3000 for a couple of years and really liked it. The 2.0 has the upgraded vinyl so is a great choice. I am currently evaluating the ab5200v2 and the BlackWing and so far, I'm not a fan of the zerogap. It works well, but you have to fiddle with the seat every single time you adjust the bench. I'm getting used to doing that, but the simplicity of the adjustments on the other benches is much nicer. I also never ever had an issue with a gap in my benches. The back pad on all the Rep benches is long enough to support my torso (and I'm 6'6") so I'm finding that the zero gap isn't as beneficial as I thought it would be. That said, I always test things for months and I'm only a few weeks in on the BlackWing. My opinion on the zero gap may change once I'm 100% used to using it.

Oh 1 more quick question,, which one is more stable,, the pot pins or the ladder type
@GymCrafter
@GymCrafter 11 ай бұрын
Both are stable. Rep's pop-pins are much better than most others (they never get stuck or don't seat correctly), but I prefer the ladder adjustment just because it's faster. I think the stability difference you might see comes from weight, not from the type of adjustment.

Thanks for the review. Is there any wobble or play from side to side in the back pad when incline or flat?
@GymCrafter
@GymCrafter 3 жыл бұрын
Nothing I've noticed on either one while training, even when firmly leaning on only one side for things like dumbbell rows or glute bridges. That said, I just went out and tested both. If you grab each side of the back pad, you can wiggle them a little, but I think you could say that about any adjustable bench simply due to the fact that the back pad is adjustable and, by nature, moves. If you are concerned with stability, I'd for sure go with the 5200, it's a tank. Hope that helps and thanks for checking out the video!

Tim, I like your garage gym setup . Have you thought about buying a lat pull down tower attachment for your power rack?
@GymCrafter

I have, it's at the top of my list of things to add to the gym. I'm waiting for the Ares to come out from Rep. I'll probably switch to a Rep rack just for that attachment as I'm not a huge fan of the pulldown from Titan.

do you or could you do a comparison between 5200 and Rogue 3.0? I am wondering which one will you pick. thanks
@GymCrafter
@GymCrafter 2 жыл бұрын
The Rogue, I believe, weighs more and the back has been reported to be more stable. Personally, I don't think it's worth the extra $100, but a lot of Rogue fanboys would disagree with me. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

If u had to do it again would you chose the ab4100 do to the vertical storage?
@GymCrafter
@GymCrafter Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I wouldn't buy a bench that declines again as I never use it. If I did, then I'd buy the one that's the least expensive that still meets my needs. For me, even though it helps, I almost never use the vertical storage because I'm lazy. If I did, and I really needed the space, then I'd spend the extra on that feature. Hope that helps!

The GetRxd bench is nice, and a little beefier than the AB3000. The main thing for me was realizing that I didn't need the decline. That's why I love the AB5200 so much. It's exactly what I need and very well built. I know some people like the decline for situps and I get that, so if that's you, go for the FID bench. If it's for decline bench pressing, I highly recommend weighted dips instead. Hope that helps! And I don't think you can go wrong either way, both your choices are good.

I'm 6'6". Whne inclined 45 degrees, my head barely fits. It fits, but it's just shy of resting on the top edge of the pad. The 5200 is no problem at all as the back pad is taller than the 3000. Hope that helps! If you have any other questions, lemme know!
