That's what I do. I play these cheap little progressives at my local casino and I wait until they are at a certain high point. I usually play at the minimum and I've hit about 90% of the jackpots and because it's at it's high point I make money. I want to start doing the bigger jackpots with this strategy. Enjoy your channel because I'm a 3 reel player. Have been on the charter flights to Wendover well over 10 years. When I've been there they've always put chairs in...barely after you got up! And I was told by another slot channel guy that Wendover percentage pays are as good as Reno. Great both places. He based that on the stats from the State. I've gotten a fair number of hand pays at Wendover playing $1. Usually on the 3x/4/5x dollar machine. Not a lot of 3 reel games available in Reno anymore!

Sorry for the duplicate question from a video from a few months ago, just didn't think you saw it. Since the machines have to even out to a certain percentage over the "life" of the machine, which could be a couple years i would think, who audits them to verify that they in fact are within the legal limit? That's a lot of slots in just one casino and sometimes they will lease or purchase a whole bank of them at once. other question, when different casinos get machines from other casinos, for instance, Cosmo had a machine (Micheal Jackson) that came from the Cromwell, but was first in Ballys. The floor board still said Bally's on it at the Cosmo. Do they reset the machine to "start" when it changes casinos?

Good information, thanks. How can you tell if a wide area progressive (WAP) is statewide or nationwide? Why does an individual machine progressive (like the $72k one shown) get so high in comparison to the other machines on that bank of games? Is it because someone hit the jackpot with less than max coins or just a chance occurrence?

It's actually pretty simple. Think about it this way. If you took a deck of cards, 52 cards in a deck and let's say that the Ace of Spades represents the progressive. In that case, it's a 1 in 52 chance to hit the progressive. Right? Shuffle and then start pulling random cards from the deck. The card could be the first one pulled or the last one pulled, or any in between. But, the odds of hitting it remain the same. 1 in 52. Now, consider how difficult a progressive is to hit - let's say 1 in 500,000 spins. It's the same basic principal, just the odds are much worse. So, the one on the left has grown quite a bit because more bets have been wagered since it last hit. It's clear that the other two either don't get played much OR they were hit recently. Hope that helps! And no, there isn't a way to know for sure if it's a state-wide or nationwide progressive jackpot.

In the example of the three machines with three different progressive jackpots, you assume that the machines have identical odds, but they can be set to hold different percentages by the casino. If one machine has an enormous jackpot and the others have smaller jackpots, it's likely that jackpot became big because the machine is set very tight compared to its neighbors.

They could have different hold percentages, but that doesn’t explain why one is so much higher than the other. The odds are generally the same, likely one stop on the RNG value. It’s just really, really difficult to hit so some grow to be pretty high.

Sure they can get high, but if it's ridiculous, like $72k to whatever the other amounts were, it more likely points to the jackpot being more difficult to hit on the machine that has grown to $72k.

It is possible for machines that look identical to have different jackpot probabilities and/or hold percentages. It is also possible that the software is identical and one machine just hasn't hit the progressive in a long time. You won't know for sure unless you can compare the software versions and it is unlikely that the casino will give you that information.

Yes, You can write off your losses. This is why using you r players card is critical so you can get an accurate win/loss report at the end of the year.

One quick note to this, it’s considered a deduction so if the standard deduction is higher than what you are writing off, it won’t make a difference. Also, it still counts towards your income level, so even if you write off the amount, it could push you into a higher tax bracket. Anyway, as Cowboy and I always say, seek advice from a tax specialist for more details.

State return to player stats will swing if a WAP hits. When comparing casinos in a states report there are several factors that can effect it. Larger properties with more machines will rank higher because those reports are just a report of money in vs. money out. If a WAP hits, you will see that effected property spike up temporarily. These reports do not tell you what machines are set at and shouldn’t be used to determine if a property has better or worse machines.

In a row of duplicate machines I always see one that has a much much higher progressive. Are the pay % set the same in bank of machines. I see people throwing money chasing the massive progressive without many hits while the machines with low progressive in the same bank seem to keep hitting.

It's just coincidence - The machine doesn't go "on the take" when the progressive starts to climb in size. The payback % of the bank of machines is typically the same or very close. They can't program a progressive machine to say, "This one is going to go really high, so we need to reduce the number of line hits".

It’s not worth the risk - can you imagine what would happen to a casino if they were caught cheating the public? One news cycle reporting this would kill the casino for good. Most and I do mean most follow the rules. They don’t need to monkey around with stuff. Also, the games themselves, from the manufacturer can not be programmed to pay after a certain time or number of spins. It’s simply not possible. When I turn the machine on the green screen to the right says display passes self test and then doesn't boot up, the credit screen to the right then says no diSP. I have removed the board and checked the battery for leakage but the board didn't have a battery on it, it was removed before I bought it. I have replaced the display with a new one and the door card with the metal handle that slides in, neither of those replacement parts has fixed it.
