I love the covers of the Eternal Editions, but honestly, I find the ink quality better in the 2011 edition and I prefer the original's translation choices. I think just size-wise too it's just more comfortable for me to sit down and read a 7 inch manga as opposed to the jumbo-sized omnibus editions.

I'm complacent with the 2011 collection that I have. How a manga is translated isn't a big deal to me--I even used Google Translate to read a Manga I could only find translated into Italian. I'm literally just in it for the story, so the size and quality of the pages is not a selling point to me. But I will say the cover art is gorgeous.

I actually bought the first five books of the Eternal Edition, and they are beautiful, but it was a major pain wanting to read them at school lol, so I calculated what chapter I left off on in the eternal edition and picked up the series with the 2011 version. I still love the eternal editions I have though, I just use them more for aesthetic and home reading now lol.

I use to have the complete set of the originals. They weren’t in great shape and had pages falling out, but that was about it. My mom one day cleaned my room, decided they were garbage and tossed all the ones losing pages which was more than half. I was royally pissed to say the least.

I was thinking of you maybe making a series of Sailor Moon theories wherein you can interact with Moonies worldwide, particularly the existence of Sailor Cosmos and why in Sailor Moon R aka Black Moon Clan on why the future world was unable to materialize when they were attacked when Chibiusa had knowledge of Super Sailor Moon and the holy grail. Thanks for this comparison! I'm torn. It looks like Eternal edition has more logical, better translation, and the glossy colored pages are lovely! But, the size of the 2011 is more portable, and I like how the printing seems a bit darker. Personally, I don't care about the font difference. I think Moon WAND sounds better than Moon stick.

I find the Eternal edition’s size to be a double edged sword. While I enjoy seeing the detail of the art on a larger scale, it can be a bit uncomfortable to hold the book at times. I own two volumes of the Japanese Perfect edition, and honestly, that size really is just perfect to me. Still hasn’t stopped me from getting the first 8 volumes of the Eternal edition though 😅

I honestly really like the “moon wand” but I don’t really like the “mystical silver crystal”. Moon wand kinda reminds me of the crescent moon wand from the og anime😂. So I don’t hate it since it kinda is a wand. I don’t really like mystical crystal though. It just sounds wrong lol.

I prefer the Eternal Editions. First off, large text makes it easier for me to read. Second, the full color pictures are beautiful and really show off the craftsmanship of each painting. And lastly, the translation makes a bit more sense to me.

I bought the 2011 editions back in 2011 because my MIXX editions are falling apart. Was disappointed with the 2011 editions -- the translation doesn't flow well. The eternal editions are beautiful and I would like to begin collecting those, but have to make some space first. Those books are huge! I really love how the MIXX editions include the commentary/notes from Naoko. I wish those were included in these new editions.

I prefer "Mystical Silver Crystal" than "Legendary Silver Crystal" to translate Japanese "Maboroshi no Ginzuisho" because mystical while is not direct translation of maboroshi, it can grab the nuance of word maboroshi.

I have both editions, though I'm missing a couple early volumes of the Eternal Edition. I find that the lettering in the Eternal Edition is much nicer in than the 2011 version. I feel like there was a lot more thought given to things like font choice and how the sfx subtitles look. (Though they both use the same dialogue font, Comicrazy by Comicraft, 2011 uses sentence case while Eternal uses all caps) There's a lot about the 2011 edition that feels "rushed" in a way. The translation's a bit sloppy, the lettering's kind of basic, things like that.

I absolutely can't stand William Flannagan's translations. It's not just because they're "super literal". The phrasing is straight up janky, to the extent that they don't do justice at all to the original story, and as the volumes progressed it got worse rather than better. The StarS arcs are almost unreadable.

The Eternal Edition's translation is more accurate to the intent and context of the original meaning. It always bothered me that the English translation went literal with "Moon Stick" even though that's what SM called in the original version because it ignores the context. "Moon Wand" IS more appropriate IMHO in what the author was trying to achieve. Same goes for "Mystical Silver Crystal" - the meaning that people believe it exists but yet have never seen it with their own eyes so no one really knows if it really does exist.

Haha yes. This is coming from someone who was born and grew up in Asia watching the original run of the anime and reading the original monthly releases. I really really detested the first dub of SM when I came to North America because of how much they butchered the series. The way they localized the Eternal Edition IMHO is the perfect way to translate. Respecting the original material while adapting it to the local context so the meaning is preserved. "Moon Wand" has got it right!

I have a question - I have the 2011 edition, but I have missing vol 4 and 12 from that edition. So my question is - if I buy the Eternal editions to complete my Sailor Moon manga collection, will the story be read differently, or each book has the same story? I've just received my copy of Eternal Edition in my native tounge (Polish) and I must say I am impressed with the quality of the product. We don't have an equivalent of 2011 edition here, but we did get original tonkobon localized edition in the late 90s. My question for You native-english folks is: Does the Kanzeban/Ethernal edition use the updated art like 2011 version or the original art as in the Tonkobon? Thank You in advance.

I was just wondering about this and.. given the DiCification of the "Eternal editions" they're a forever no for me. DiC did so much damage to Sailor Moon in the US and we're still trying to recover from that (I doubt we ever will) and keeping relics from the DiC era and it's supremely flawed translations and concepts are a huge no for me.

Also there is a new Naoko Takeuchi edition coming! They will be the size of the 2011 ones but with the eternal translation. First volume comes out this april! more info: a.co/1dHhm0Q

@@ochibawolf yes! I saw that when i started loading my cart with the 2011s and thought i might get that too, at least the first issue, idk of there will be more. I thought Naoko's version was out already at least i thought i remembered it to be expected in like oct when i saw it was available for preorder. Im so torn now! Lol thank you for replying!
