I've always wanted to see actual intake flow...back in the day everyone slapped a Vic Jr on a SBC and it was adequate enough for a 240 cfm head,but head technology has exceeded most of the older style intakes nowadays...keep up the good work.

One of the rare tests you will ever find on the internet. So eye opening. Nobody wants to have a kick butt head flow and then show that a manifold will drag it down into average territory.

Love seeing comparison like this! Those swirl number are interesting. Need more information on this. Does more swirl make more power? Maybe better atomization and helping to complete the burn.
@davidwickboldt7122 жыл бұрын
It would be interesting to see how high swirl compares to high flow on an engine dyno. Funny how with all the R&D on 4 strokes, so much is still theory. 2 strokes are even more mysterious. Still new operational variables to discover?

Hi I really enjoyed this video. I have a couple of questions. I would like to see you flow a stock sbc Edelbrock Performer Air Gap and one that you have ported or sent to Extrude Hone to Equalize the runners as much as possible and also use a 1 inch open spacer on both that these manifolds respond well to. Second lets say I was building a 11:1 327 .030 over so its now a 331 and wanted 500 hp, so in theory I would use a Air Flow Reasearch 195 with the competition port job. This way smaller cc than a 210 should equal more port velocity. Now, lets say you can equalize the ports in the manifold to say, 288 cfm on average of each runner. Does the head have to be able to flow anymore than that to make power. Its nice to have the big flow numbers but if your manifold cant get you there then should you just buy a set of heads with lower flow numbers?? Or, are there things that I do not know comming into play. Thanks for the awsome content but this is what I think about and would like a concrete answer.
@gisaac37792 жыл бұрын
Thanks Eric. I have a Profiler/Wilson ported. My thought on that is when not port matched the runner entry was rather small and tapered in to allow for a port match. If possible could you comment on that compared to the others that were tested? I remember the center divider at the head face between ports being extremely wide maybe 5/16”ish with a taper from about 1” in the port exit to the flange face. Been a few years now though but in my mind that would kill it without being straightened and sized.

Great video ! Curious if youd do anything different to your ported intake on a 25+ lbs of boost , blow thru carb combo ? Ive heard plenum volume becomes a much bigger concern than port dividers extending into the plenum on a 1000+ hp sbc ?

Really nice info! I’m running a holley strip dominator right now, could be wrong, but i wonder how much the port air speed has to do with swirl, or if the angle the air comes around the valve through the chamber has more effect? I know it not a real reasonable thing to do, but it would be cool for someone to do a fresh intake manifold test on the dyno

fair enough.. it kind a makes sense.. the coeffiecent of thew swirl is weird at a guess its a self meter for u .. if u know a good number dyno and mani flow for a certain build i think it will be relevent other wise you could run nissan r35 gtr airflow meter in the cylider wall there supposed to flow 550 cfm or something it maybe read something.. another way or even better before the the carby because it will only draw the air it can flow kinda likek a dyno carb swirl hat
@jacksonbermingham21682 жыл бұрын
also the 35 gtr has reversion flow build in so maybe if u could bolt it in to a carb spacer its probably 2 inch wide or 1.5 ... it could give you maybe a reversion pulse to if flipped if the the valves was say running at 7000 rpm .. at a guess u kinda want to minimise reversion back up from inlet valve specaily carby although it could add more atomisation probably why long runners do so well .. i can understand having bulk volume on super vics the air has some where to go the reversions slower and the track ks easier on draw ins .. i guess does that reversion pulse of atomised gas cool the air charge and aslong as it doesnt reverse draw on the carb jets it shouldnt because v8 a ITB weber it could
@jacksonbermingham21682 жыл бұрын
this swirl has opened a can of worms specail reversion pulse to feed other cylinder . like does reversion pulse help feed next cylinder intake stroke or hinder it because the intake swirl to carb entry clash.. fight each other in the plenum makes sense plenum volume helps free the air for repurpose of direction
