One more thing I should mention is that you shouldn't get too hung up on which engine to buy. For your first year in shifters you just need something to pound laps with. After several thousand laps then you can reassess which engine you think you will be the most competitive with.

Good info. One overarching thing I'll add to the video is the importance of checking what engines/classes are run at your local track. For lapping days it won't matter, but if you plan to enter races the last thing you want to do is shell out cash only to find that you can't race it. Where did the 100Hr maintenance number come from for the Yamaha, that's the first time I've seen that number.

I have personal experience with more than 1 moto engine that made it over 100 hours on the crank. All these numbers are personal experience.

@@RACE.KART.PRODUCTS 100hrs on a bottom end is pretty good. Assuming the moto in the video you have is one of the Yamaha's from MRC... have you got 100hrs or so on one of those yet.

Because the transmission in TM is bullet proof better metals in the TM

Just bought a TM R1 used fully rebuilt. From my research in a Canada, it was the best longevity, maintenance cost and resale value. We don’t have Japanese shifters or Iame in Canada. So it was basically so to Rok vs KZ. Everyone I talked to that has a Rok or wish they did, wishes they had a KZ

Why dont the EFI these engines? The kits are so cheap there only 250$ from Japan and like 20$ extra is its a 2 cycle and or need a map sensor for a turbo setup. Its fully adjustable with a laptop and it comes with the program and usb connection

karting folks in the shifter ranks like to stay true to the pureness of a carburetor. It may be more appealing to club level though

Which kit are you referring to out of curiosity? The only ones I've seen in that price range have pretty terrible tuning software, so I'm curious which kit you're looking at. EFI still struggles with two stroke piped engines in racing conditions. There's a group of (Very experienced) guys in the UK working with the KTM with EFI, so far it's either slow or it locks up. MotoGP teams couldn't get it quite right and reverted to carb. EFI for a two stroke OK for everyday or motocross trail use. But the changing demands across the rev range, resonance and reversion qualities of a highly tuned engine in racing conditions have made EFI elusive so far. Turbo on a piped two stroke gives you a powerband of about 500RPM. Which means it will be a slow That said, anything over 50HP on most kart tracks barely makes a dent on your laptimes.

Which one would be perfect for me to find cheap? I want power i just want to drift it honestly cause im gonna turbo it and EFI it. If not ill use it for racing and just do that to my Rotax fr125 Max i just picked up i also own 2 yamaha kt100s but i wanna be able to shift it. Also im gonna give you a fallow to have you answer some of my questions i have

honsa would be the cheapest to find used. Drifting in a kart doesnt work.

Probably the cheapest to buy would be a CR80 or if you're able to fab up a mount and other items, a pitbike engine is another way to go. Neither of these will service with a turbo though.
