The ranger pistol is actually better than the burst. (Were using legendary rarity for my comparison) Ranger has 198 dps and 2x crit damage. Burst has 192 dps and 1.75 crit Edit: in terms of damage

Given the hyper was renamed to the Harbinger in Season 2, it still pales even to a common burst-smg after adding a red-eye scope and laser sight. I wonder if Epic will patch that out when Season 3 happens?

HELPFUL TIP: if you find a burst smg with a lazer sight, TAKE IT. When it fires, it's crosshairs go to a "+", and it can work as a makeshift marksman rifle! I call it "The Precise-rifle!"

Toss up really..sometimes I carry a burst but it depends on what attachments it has and how late into the round it is..if it's deep into a game it's great to have for close build fights you can hammer builds and when your right there outbuilding it's nice to have on you..find myself carrying that now more then a sniper...I can go shotty, burst, AR then rotation and heal

The burst smg has been stronger because it gets the laser on two mod paths naturally and you can see how it gives zero bloom and muzzle thing lowers the small recoil for better ranted accuracy
