The best all around value for a cinema shooter on the A thousand crop line up for a new buyer would be the 6500, You can now pick a new one up for around 900 dollars with 500 to spare if compared to 6600, With 6500 you lack AF tech but 6500 still has AF tech thats 90% reliable and still alot better than 100% of other crop manufactures. 6600 has better color science but 6500 still has log and you can get some amazing results or just as good if you can grade and expose correctly, If your into shooting cinema your mostly behind the cam, you dont need to see yourself. With 500 to spare you can get the sigma 30mm 1.4 prime lens for 300, A feelworld 4k monitor with headphone jack for 160 with a smallrig cage and top handle for about 40 bucks, thats already 1,400 for a complete cine rig, attach a mic and a dummy battery thats connected to a larger source for about 100 bucks more and you'll be good to go. After all they do have the same sensor.

A6100 does also not have picture profiles, A6400 does have slog and hlg. For the lack of IBIS you can use a gimbal, for the smaller battery, you can buy spare batteries or plug in a powerbank and some wireless mic sets have headphone jack on them, but you can't do anything for the lack of picture profiles which renders the a6100 useless for more serious videography. You can get A6400 instead of A6600 and for 500 usd price difference you can buy a gimbal (crane m2) and a decent external mic and a couple of spare batteries. (AND you can buy A6400 today) And if you like the small, light weight, travel friendly zhiyun crane m2, a6600 will not work with that since it is 100gr more than A6400. You can barely use A6400 with kit lens or with 10-18 f4 or with zeiss 24mm 1.8 on that small gimbal. Yes, that means investing in aps-c lenses but that's the trade off for the ultra compact gimbal setup that you can take everywhere. IBIS can never take the place of a gimbal anyways. I have A7R3 with several full frame lenses and a A6400 with the 16-50 kit lens (not so bad for video and has power zoom that you can control with crane m2 wirelessly) and 24mm 1.8 zeiss (bought it used for 40% less than the retail price), crane m2 and also ronin sc (love it, but it is much bigger than the m2). So, I use the a6400 mainly for video. Yes, having IBIS, a bigger battery and headphone jack is cool but not for 500 usd more! 1400 usd vs 900 usd, it is 55% more than the 6400. And I think if I pay 1400 usd just for the body, I might opt for a used A73 in good condition. And if you can afford an A7Siii it would be fantastic but for 3400 usd, I can buy 3 A6400 cameras and can shoot and create very good multi angle online content using 1st for A-cam, 2nd for B-cam and 3rd for over head shots. That set costs less than 1 A7Siii. I think people that really need a camera like A7siii, wouldn't be watching videos about differences btw A6000 and A6100. I just watched this video because you weren't around lately and I missed your videos; but shooting session videos..

Setup been great for travel, landscapes and static photos BUT now with a growing family want decent portraits and autofocus for moving critters. I’m at a decision tree. 1. Keep my NEX6 for travel kit and buy the a7iii and a couple lenses for family portraits around home/local stuff. (Probably a 3500-4000 investment) 2. Buy the a6600 to utilize the lens library I already have. Upgrade to IBIS system. Save money at the trade off of slightly lower quality photos. I’m not a big video guy.

Interesting that what you're asking for on the A7Siii is for it to have an articulated rear screen. Hoo-ra, and more power to your elbow, Jason. Trouble is the new A7Riv will be left looking a little silly with its crippled screen, and all of us will know that the NEXT generation of A7s will go fully articulated. And what's the hold up Sony? You've had fully articulated screens since the 90s on your camcorders.
@JasonLanierPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Not just their camcorders but also their A mount cameras as well. Those are actually the best flip around screens that I've used. Failure to provide a better screen does indeed cripple their full frame lineup from many things that creators like me want to do.

@lasarith24 жыл бұрын
Get the kit lens and start with that, once you get used to it (taking shots) the 50mm OSS F1.8 is a good next lens (the F number means the Bokeh ((how blurred the background is )) F1.8 ~ person in front of you is in frame, the background is blurred, (also less light entering the camera lens, and if you changed it to say F5.6 or F11 everything would be in frame (you would see the background clearly) (more light hitting the lens )

I beg to differ with Jason on one thing..that the A6600 is best for video because of IBIS..for some one serious about videography i would suggest getting a gimbal..Jason footage of your video work in this clip was very shaky (the part where you zoom in on the wedding couple) and not upto par with how pro your still photography is..i would suggest people serious about videography to go either for the A7iii, just use a6400 with a gimbal or wait for A7siii
@JasonLanierPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Dr. Srinivas there’s no doubt a gimbal makes any video camera better. Sometimes a gimbal isn’t feasible which is when IBIS is the only option. So, if you are planning on doing video, I would definitely get a camera with IBIS.

So I am still waiting for the a6700 ... I think ... I know I am. These two are good from what I've seen But I'm not a videographer, and yes the 6100 would be a massive step up from my evergreen 6000. My hands and arms are old and even bad ibis would help me "a73 a73 a73" ... No No hang-on, my hands are also small, but my NEX 5T really feels tiny even in my hands. I think the a7iii would be better for indoor basketball due to the full frame sensor/cleaner high ISO. I have a concern that the 70-200 is only a 2.8 and may not be fast enough for very poorly lit basketball courts. I would look for a 1.8 lens.

I'd definitely consider the A7iii. Keep in mind for very fast action movement in sports you might be disappointed in using the Canon 70-200mm lens with the Metabones depending on how fast the action is.

@@JasonLanierPhotography Are you saying the 20-200 2.8 with Metabones will not have fast focus or just the lighting?

If possible you should try the cameras with adapted lenses. I compared A7rii and A6400 with lenses that have slow AF (30mm Macro, 55-300 A-mount with LA-EA3). My impression was that A6400 had quicker AF.

I was actually thinking of selling my a6500 & getting the a6400 as im gonna use it for video on a gimbal ..with all the new AF features its gotta be better tthan my a6500 & paying for Ibis & buying the a6600 is not worth the difference.. ..you could buy a damn good gimbal & a6400 for a lot less than getting the a6600 ..
@JasonLanierPhotography5 жыл бұрын
That's true brother. BUT, a much better battery life, headphone jack etc. are pretty critical things for video work as well. These really hamper the A6400.

@@JasonLanierPhotography good point..& noted but im doing this on a very tight budget & it will cost me £200 GBP to upgrade to a6400 & thats coming from selling an apsc lens ..so vertually a free upgrade..

This video would be an official unofficial spoiler teaser of A7sIII confirmation. (My commitment to A7siii is no new iPhone purchase this year!)

The a6600 ibis is not usable. even a7iii does come close to Panasonic's Gh5/G9.

It's incredible that people treat a6600 as a successor to a6400. No, these cameras are from different segments. Just like we have Nikon 3400, 5600 and 7500, we have a6100, 6400 and 6600 - they are upgrades from a6000, 6300 and 6500. Sony released 6600 because 6500 needed replacing, not because they thought a6400 wasn't a success.
@JasonLanierPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Look at the grid between the A6100 and the A6400. They are nearly IDENTICAL cameras. You don't release three crop sensor cameras within 6 months if what you have is selling well. That makes no business sense.

Well Jason, if that new A7S3 would have all the features you mentioned, and a flippy screen, to the side, so it can be seen with a mike on top and not flips at the sides where the cables need to be stuck in, and adjustable audio in manual, it would mean THE END OF CAMERA CONSPIRACIES. And we can't have that, can we ?? 😂 🤣 😃 😂 🤣 😃 😂 🤣 😃 😂 🤣 😃

LOL very true. However I think the failure to do so could possibly turn off a lot of users if they don't.

Love your videos... I was shooting with an A6500 and A6400 in tandem... Enjoyed the full-time AF of the A6400 and was really hoping for a replacement to the A6500 that would hit the ball out of the park. However, the A6600 doesn't put enough on the table over an A6400 (with a Meike battery grip) for stills to convince me to purchase it. My final decision is to keep the A6400 and I purchased the A7iii to replace the A6500. I love the A7iii but, it is nice to have the little A6400 as an adjunct. I don't really need IBIS since I don't shoot video. Luckily many of my lenses for the APSC cameras were full-frame models. However, I will be replacing my 24-70mm f/4 Vario Tessar with the Tamron 28-75mm lens...
