In my opinion, for an honest comparison, you should’ve played the same riff on both basses. The Chic riff “Everybody Dance” on the ‘79 bass would’ve been perfect for both basses.

Fair comparison prerequisite is to use the same sample. Second tune on black '78 is hit on pups more than yellow '79, which sounds way brighter because its hit less, and accurately strummed.

79 with old stings for both looks and sound . Bernard always !!❤
@vincentwright9143 Жыл бұрын
No matter the riff being played, clearly the black one literally sounds darker, muddier even. My ears and brain filter prefers the brighter, more articulate sound of the first one. And, for me, Lars always immaculate technique makes up for the different riffs. I’d hire him on the spot for tonight’s gig, if I had one. lol 😅
@grahamalexanderbassuk3895 Жыл бұрын
I feel like there shouldn't be much between these two basses if you played the same tune on each bass, it would take player, technique, strings and EQ to really make them stand out against eachother. Given its Lars with a pick for both songs id go with the main difference being EQ and the strings that are on each bass changing the sound here.

Seems like the 1979 one has more bite and more power!

I like the black one. There seems to be more punch. But yep having the same strings & sound settings & same songs would help. If anyone has Music Man’s in their possession, from the 70’s,you better keep ‘em. They might be worth more money. They made electronics better back then.

New stingrays are way better! I had an early 90s Stingray till I sold it to buy my Stingray Special 4H. A swamp ash 4H special that’s super dense and more woody and mid-centered while retaining the same funky zingy treble from the 70s ones. The roasted maple also sets it apart. Finally my 2019 weighs 7.8lbs which is crazy light for a bass guitar. The stainless steel frets, high quality hardware and craftsmanship…. If you’re looking for a bass and have the money there’s tons of 2018-2020 Stingray Specials that can be found for $1800 best production bass money can buy
