As long as Carl has an enemy inside his hit box Carl can still deal damage, basically meaning that Carl can hit some targets behind him if they were close enough in a certain position. I think the results might not be final, there are many gadget / sp choices that could be changed. For example, collette could use the first gadget to deal extra damage, and stu could use the second gadget to break the walls toward the safe and the projectiles can do some extra damage.
