Great video. I've had two of the Yale Conexis locks over about 6 years now. As mentioned the app is rubbish. On the occasions I've needed to use it to open the door (when I've got my phone but no card/tag) the app is always signed out and I end up spending ages normally in the rain signing in before being able to open the door. Additionally, to share a digital key within the app with a guest, you have to buy each virtual key. The only plus I've found is B&Q seem to always sell packets of Cards or Tags or Stickers in their regular sales for a few pounds meaning I've got a few packs of each in storage to give out to house guests that I can just wipe when they fail to return them.

One feature that I like about the Simpled lock is the fact that if you simply shut the door, it is locked from the outside (although I appreciate you should lift the handle for full security). Do any other smart locks offer this facility?

I have used a V1 Nuke since the initial product launch and I must say its a somewhat frustrating experience. While Nuke has "support" for multipoint locks in the software it doesn't really address the issue of accidentally not lifting the handle. Frequently other family members or visitors will forget to lift the handle which can result in the auto locking failing into a "jammed" or "motor blocked" status - this results in having to cycle the lock and usually recalibrating it. What a pain. It doesn't help that my door has quite a strong swing back when you lift the handle; so if you let go at the top of the lift it will ever so slightly move the multipoint mechanism such that you can not lock the door - you have to gently lower the handle... I have reached out to Niki multiple times regarding the software support for multilocks with no fixes in sight for these frustrating issues. I would much rather that instead of "jammed" status the lock just ignores the locking failure (after logging) and resumes into the "unlocked" state until the next door open/close event. Perhaps there has been hardware changes in subsequent versions that mitigate the way it fails upon being unable to complete a lock cycle but I am loathe to "upgrade" at significant cost only to find it has the same problem. I would buy a new door if someone would offer a powered HomeKit compatible multipoint system that can wholly lock itself.
@dannycostello Жыл бұрын
You are technically right but also wrong regarding the Yale lock. You can either have a yale midule or the Z-wave misule both require a bridge but Z-wave is an open platform and this wirks with apple homekit so in a way they do offer homekit connectivity. The L2 comes as standard with the tale module but the L1 comes with non but you can add the Z-wave module (Yale sells these)

I have the simpled installed and rate it very highly. The app is brilliant and works without issues. I do find the fingerprint (like most other units) is temperamental when it's raining or your finger is wet. No problem though, still have the card and PIN pad. 😊😊

Thank you so much for saying this! Indeed wet finger / biometric can be a pain, especially here in England! However we have attempted to make the material as water resistant as possible and a quick wipe with a sleeve usually works a treat too!

Because of my suspicion of tech I would only ever fit a smart lock to my apartment door that allows entry to be gained using a key. In fact Yale don’t recommend fitting their conexis lock to apartments for this reason
@Saturnuria9 ай бұрын
I've been following the develop of smart locks for years and have nearly pulled the trigger many times but there's always something missing. Personally, I'd like HomeKit and now HomeKey support but the biggest drawback is the lack of a solution for pushing up the handle. If I need to lock the door remotely (either because I've forgotten to lock it, or because I've had to remotely unlock it for some reason) there's a good chance that the handle hasn't been pulled up. I know it can take a bit of physical effort and would require a decent power source but surely it can't be technically impossible.
@MarksTechVlogs9 ай бұрын
There’s beginning to be a few multi point mechanisms appear that do auto latch which would solve the issue of needing to lift the handle but these seem to only be available to trade at the moment
@Saturnuria9 ай бұрын
@@MarksTechVlogs That’s interesting. I hadn’t come across them. So they replace the mechanisms itself rather than provide a way of lifting the handle? I imagine that could be quite a tricky job for the layperson.

I've had the Yale Conexis L1 for just over three years now. The lock itself has been great. Only two tiny issues, installing it, one of the parts was missing, which I didn't realise until I was halfway through. But Yale were great, sent of the missing part. On my second attempt fitting the lock it took just over one hour. Then recently, Yale changed their app, which was a bit of a faff to setup up and change over key fobs. When I bought the Yale, there wasn't many options available, especially ones which home insurers were happy about. Recently I've been looking for a smart lock for the back door (multi point locking system). I was all ready to buy the Simpled double sided lock, as I wanted it locked from inside as the door is part glass and therefore couldn't have an internal thumb wheel inside to un/lock the door. But then I found out the Simpled lock doesn't have any British kitemark or accreditation from insurers, so I'm back looking for options again.

Hi, just wondered if you could help me? I need to find a smart/Wi-Fi lock for my multi-point external locks where you don't have to use your hands at all. I'm disabled and would need to be able to operate them via my Alexa. Have been looking online but is very confusing. Would really appreciate your advice. Thanks in advance. Mark
@MarksTechVlogs27 күн бұрын
Hi, The U200 from Aqara, Switchbot Lock Pro and Nuki 4th Generation smart locks can all be controlled by Alexa however, they do all still require a multi-point door to have it's handle lifted. This probably means you'd also need to get a locksmith to upgrade your multi-point door to use slam-style multipoint which lock automatically. I've not used these myself but I believe the Yale Lockmaster and Winkhaus systems achieve this. Another route could be to talk to Ultion about their bolt system which achieves the same and works with the Nuki locks. Hopefully that helps

I have Conexis L1 but bought the module to connect it to the bridge as I have Yale Sync alarm. It works fine so long as you have internet. If your internet is down you can't get in as no key at all as backup. The cards and fobs work on Bluetooth and are super unreliable

I've had my conexis L1 for 4 years. The fob has worked flawlessly every time and I use a Zwave dongle to connect it to home assistant so I can use my phone to unlock it without needing their absolutely appalling app. The app is the only reason I am considering a new lock as I can't add new keys now the app is that bad.
@Tekwyzard7 ай бұрын
@@CaptainQwerty I've had the same experience as you, I use the Zwave module to connect to my Home Assistant, and like all my fobs and cards, it's all been reliable and flawless, so I dunno why the OP has had so many issues with fobs etc. The cards and fobs don't use bluetooth btw @simondennis101, they use NFC. Anyway, yeah, the app has always been almost useless, but Yale are pulling a bit of a fast one on that, as you no doubt know by now. Instead of just making it work properly using the built-in bluetooth comms of the lock, they've just dumped it, to be replaced by their new shiny one, which forces the purchase of another module, and potentially a bridge. If you act fast though one can acquire the module and a magnet thingy it can work with for door position sensing, very cheaply from Yale (£5). The module appears to be just another bluetooth, maybe modern up to date BLE or something, I dunno, but you also get forced to update the locks firmware (takes ages), which disables the built-in bluetooth, so no more fancy touchpad activated blue LED for you.... Good news though, once all done, after factory resetting your lock, you can use the new app, and the new dongle thing, to manage the card/fobs flawlessly, then shove your zwave module back in to carry on using Home Assistant. Home Assistant in my case anyway, didn't even know or bother that anything had happened to the lock.

I did use a Nuki every day for about a year and a half before the U200. I have a video comparing all three coming out later today 😀

Thanks
@MarksTechVlogs7 ай бұрын
100%! - The Ultion Nuki (or any Nuki Smart Lock) only goes on the inside of your door so is protected from the weather. If you buy an external keypad accessory that will go on the outside but is wireless and water resistant. At the moment the Ultion Nuki still bundles the Nuki 3 rather than the 4th generation Nuki smart locks so I'd either look at the Nuki 4 or 4 Pro directory at Nuki or even look at the Switchbot Lock Pro which has just come out (review coming on my channel tomorrow!).
