Great video man! Just wanted to point out that the Explorer card offers a free checked bag for the primary cardholder and one companion traveling on the same reservation. So, 2 free checked bags if you're traveling with a child or spouse which is lit 🔥

Totally agree with this! I have AMEX Platinum and CSP but my UA Quest card is amazing and in 2024, I plan to use it the most to help me earn higher status than I’m currently at. Great video!

I fly United when I fly. My flying is feast or famine. I'll make three flights for a month then nothing for a year or more so the grown up cards aren't worth it. I found the Explorer to be a perfect sleeper card - the club passes, free first checked bag, and TSA Pre Check or Global Entry credit more than make up for the fee.

I know im late, but for people who are annual fee adverse or dont qualify for the higher tier cards United does have a subscription for $350/year for two checked bags for you and your companion. I think this is a good option as well.

Great video! If I were to get the United Club card to start then downgrade to the Quest so I could get the most number of miles in the intro offer, would I still have to pay the $525 annual fee? Or can I downgrade to Quest within the same year and still pay the $250 annual fee? I know some CCs will revoke bonuses if you revert within the same year. If I have to pay the $525 then I don't think it's worth it since I want the statement credit but not sure if there's a way to hack it.

I like where your head’s at, I tried to do that with Citi once but it didn’t work because they don’t allow downgrades within the first 12 months. Chase would be the same, the account has to be open atleast a year to downgrade.

Downgrading right away wouldn’t make sense because you wouldn’t get the sign up bonus. There may be a rule in place that you have to wait 12 months to do it, I know Citi has that rule

For the occasional United traveler, the United Biz and Gateway combo makes sense. You get 5k points per year just for having both cards, checked bags and a pair of club passes for $99. If you fly more often, then I would replace the Gateway with the Quest card in that setup or just go Quest only.

Ah true the better together deal. I didn’t think of that. I like that idea, I’m a fan of the quest due to the effective annual fee. There’s no “right” way, but value attained will play a major factor in getting the United business + a personal United card.

To get the full value from Quest, one has to redeem miles at least twice a year. That's the one thing that someone who flies less often on United may not be able to do to get a low effective AF. The better together deal is easier to do.

@@SolidLiquidFox There are some familial use cases that make the quest worth it for very little travel. Such as one trip per year, but everyone’s luggage is covered. Whatever the cost of the ticket is minus the $125 credit minus whatever you don’t have to pay in baggage fees should put most families of 3 or more in the green easily without checking the math.

@Noble Credit not booking round trips would be step one. That should trigger the two 5k point rebates on each leg of the trip. Assuming that you have enough United miles to book the required award travel to trigger the two 5k mile credit. The $125 can probably be used with Travel Bank.

Question: because of the nature of my job, I was able to reach Premier 1K status this year. So I have those benefits as a flyer. (11x miles/flights 3 checked bags, pre boarding etc.) All my trips and food is payed for by my company CC. With using a United card, I won’t necessarily need it to gain status as I already tend to meet those requirements with traveling often. It would be nice to have club access. Do you think it’s just best to pay for the annual club membership @ $550 for Premier 1K members(vs $650 reg) or still consider getting a United card?

It’s best to just get the United Club card since the annual fee is $525, which will give you United Club access cheaper than paying for it outright. You’ll also get a big sign up bonus 💰💰🤑

Where’d you get all those miles from??? Very nice! Too bad United miles have been devalued now, I just booked a portion of a trip using United miles and my redemption may have been .83 cents per point. It was an award booking for two that was 1c/p with just points but the cash required made it .83 c/p. Not horrible but I prefer a booking to be atleast over 1.25 c/p. Otherwise you’re better off booking through the chase travel portal, which is just the best way to redeem in general.

With the Unite Club credit card, they can enter for free if they’re traveling with you and are an authorized user. This will depend on the United club’s policy at the time you do it

@@NobleCredit But having a United card forces me to pay extra for United flights even if there is another airline that is cheaper. So while those perks are nice, you end up paying a lot more than you would if you have a generic card that works with all airlines.

I have both the WF Autograph and United Explorer Card. To me, they compliment each other. Having access to the lounges is a reason why I don’t care for moving up in frequent flyer status 😅 Also, I live in DC which is one of the largest hubs, so United is the one of the only options for me to fly…also being a member of Star Alliance and being able to earn/use miles on Star Alliance flights is also an amazing perk
