Re a barrier between powdery food and the top of the jar. In addition to preventing the powder from being sucked into your machine and gumming it up, More IMPORTANTLY, it prevents the powdery substance from getting on your seal and possibly interfering with a good seal. Thanks for the video!

You've inspired me to finally get off my duff and get a foodsaver VS'er. It was 214 dollars at Walmart here in SE Iowa. I'll probably keep the black mason jar sealer, but only for resealing jars that I'll be keeping in the kitchen; for long-term, it's the foodsaver all the way!

Many manufacturers won't tell us the one specification that we all buy vacuum sealers for - how much vacuum do they draw in inches of mercury. The hogher that number, the better. There are other features for sure, but vaccuum is one of the important factors.

Thanks Deb.Glad to see there’s hope for the regular size lid! Maybe I’ll get the all-in-one too.

If you read instructions on the electric sealer, 40-50 seconds is sufficient time to properly seal the jar. It doesn't take over 3 minutes. I've been using this one sealing 40-50 seconds and haven't had a problem.

Oh I read the directions. They weren’t sealed at 40 seconds. The lid wasn’t even attached. So I foolishly bought a second one. After 3 minutes they sealed. But, a month later none had remained sealed. I’m glad it worked out for you. But I’ll stick with my FoodSaver.

I love my VPO6 one piece sealer. I find it hard to believe it takes 3 minutes to seal a jar. I manually turn mine off after 40 seconds and my jars are sealed. If you listen carefully there is a change in the pitch sound that indicates it is sealed.

My seals popped on all my jars when I used this sealer. I’m sticking with my FoodSaver.

So, for storing rice in a mason jar, you don't need any oxygen absorbers? Also, how long would rice last in the mason jar? Would it last long in a Malyar bag? I'm new to this so be gentle. Thx: -0

You don’t need oxygen absorbers. The vacuum sealer actually removes the oxygen. That’s what preserves your food. I add a year to most Best Buy dates. So if your rice says 2025, I go to 2026. But I’ve had many many subscribers says they’ve gone years beyond that. Our food gets rotated so I haven’t had rice that long. Mylar bags successfully keep oxygen out once sealed. But rodents can chew through them destroying the food long term. That’s why I stick with canning jars. I try to always be kind. ☺️
