One mod that was not mentioned in this video is "The World Reborn" mod for the delisted Android port on Steam. This mod basically redoes all of the sprite work in the game, undoes any censorship, swaps the ost with a fully orchestrated OST (including a singing Celes during the Opera scene), has the extra GBA content, and it has a ton of other minor changes and fixes and it has allows for a ton of tinkering for the perfect tailored experience to the user. In my opinion that is the definitive way to play this game, but it requires a mod to play.

I can pitch in there, since I played a few of them. It mostly boils down to presentation and features. Obviously the handheld versions of it are going to have compressed/more pixelated looking graphics, and more compressed sounds/music, but I think the DS version is the best for both presentation and content. It's the only version that allows you to freeplay with up to 8 players (including CPUs in that count), and has different rulesets to play with as well. It's also the only version that has a world map view between battles, and the character expression circles on the bottom screen. This would be true for any DS/3DS port of a Puyo game, by the way, these are the only versions that sport that effect. The other versions are all basically the same, except the console ones like PS2 just have 3D effects on the Puyo as the pop.

One of the little things I've come to like with the original (when compared to later editions) is how the enemy list on the menu only listed the types of enemies in the party, without identifying which enemy was which, and it didn't identify an enemy when you cursored over it in battle. Among other things, this meant that the giant, 3-phase monstrosity you fought leading up to Kefka proper _wasn't named_ -- yes each part canonically has a name but you were never told this, encouraging you to view it as a single unknown "thing" you take down part by part rather than several discrete enemies grouped together.

My vote is for the Pixel Remaster based simply on the fact that Uematsu remastered the music as well. The opera scene now has lyrics during the multiple acts and it really adds something special. I also appreciate not having to memorize Sabin's blitz attacks anymore as the sequence is shown on the screen. Similar with Cyan's blade techniques. You just pick one then move onto your next fighter rather than waiting for the meter to fill before doing anything.

Repeating yourself in reviews is a pain in the ass, but you did it with a balance that gets someone what they need if they're only watching one as well as in a way that wasn't tedious for someone who watched all six videos in a row, like I did. Thanks so much for this! I'm playing through III - VI of the Pixel Remasters, and I'm currently midway through V. These are my first experiences with all of these games, aside from briefly trying the original iOS port of V. As someone accustomed to the Pixel Remasters and looking back- the backgrounds and spell effects look great in the Pixel Remasters, but the character sprites and UI look better in the original. I especially like the dimmer color palate in the SNES version of VI. I've been debating if I want to do the Pixel Remaster for VI as well or do a different version. I think I'll stick to the Pixel Remaster for convenience's sake, but I'll definitely be using a font mod. Very interesting video, final fantasy 6 is my favorite of the series, and this was a good way to rerelease the game in my opinion, not the best of course but still way better than the previous mobile/steam version, the remade soundtrack is good, and it even has a mod for restoring the original snes ost for those that prefer the original, it’s really sad that they didn’t include all the gba bonus content, specially when the previous version did have it and now it’s unavailable (officially anyway), otherwise this would have been the definitive ff6 version, hopefully it will be later included with a mod, or maybe square-enix will include it in a future patch, but knowing them it will surely be a dlc of some sorts (if they decide to add the bonus content at all, so prefer to put my faith in the modding community rather than In Square enix)

I hear the Pixel Remaster port of the game messed up the final battle theme. Normally Act 1 of the Dancing Mad songs needs to end before Act 2 starts, but instead, the acts get cut instantly in the middle of the song to the next one when the next stage of the battle starts, which removes the illusion of being one complete song.

I started a playthrough of this game on the SNES Classic but never finished it. I wonder if it'd be worth it to play this game through the Pixel Remaster on Steam instead or save the cash and tolerate the SNES version. This is the only Final Fantasy game I tried so I also want to know if it's a good starting point or not. I only managed to get to the part where you unlock the Blitz ability.
@Azuris1902 жыл бұрын
I went somewhere lost in the SNES Classic after the Crash of the Airship and i was too lazy to get in again. But the Pixel Remaser was worth it. Imo the Game has a good Flow, is not too hard and grindy as other Final Fantasies can be, but has everything inside that other Titles of the Series have. So, play the SNES Classic or the Pixel Remaster, it is worth it :) Final Fantasy IV is also a pretty nice Experience for a more classic one.
@diegoarmando54892 жыл бұрын
FF4 is the best starting point (either PSP or Pixel Remaster), especially if you've not played a lot of JRPGs. It's the first game to use ATB, and its secondary mechanics are very straightforward. FF6, FF7, and FF9 aren't necessarily more difficult than FF4, but they all build on FF4's gameplay loop with more elaborate secondary mechanics. FF5 and FF8 are best played when you've had more experience with the genre. The other games don't use ATB and can be played whenever you feel like it. FF2 (which plays more like SaGa) and FF3 (which is a less refined FF5) are extremely difficult though. FF10 is on the easy side like 6, 7, and newer revisions of 4.
@kirusaru2 жыл бұрын
This was my entry point into the FF series, honestly, there is no wrong answer here. Give it a full playthrough on the SNES Classic first, then if you want to experience the Soundtrack and game events in a different light, try the PR. SNES Classic is as close to the original experience as you can get nowadays without owning a SNES/Cart honestly. Pixel Remaster is a solid 2nd option if you want a more 'modern' experience

So your choices are: 1. SNES with TWUE or Rose patch 2. GBA with sound, color restore and uncensor patch. 3. Steam (PR) 4. Steam (Old Version). It also depends if you want the bonus content or not (1 and 3 don't, 2 and 4 do). In short, all reasonably solid choices with each have their own pros and cons are depend on the player's preference.

@@the_dark_soul_of_man I did neglect to mention one change, though its very minor and unimportant. When you find Celes, she's being punched by a former ally soldier of hers because of insubordination/treachery. The only weird things are that they strangely re-censored Shiva and don't give the option for original palletes for anything except for Goddess and Siren. Almost feels unfinished option-wise?(Which sucks, since it seems like it is no longer getting updated) That would still be the way I'll want to play when I eventually get around to it tho because...well, why say no to the additional content from prior versions?
