the 225, was the very best sounding tube amp that mcintosh made-- about 80% of the sound of a Marantz 8b

I own a mc2505 and for solid state it sounds remarkably tube-like, very warm with a wide soundstage. Never heard a modern amp that quite sounds like it.

@@mikeg2491 I got the MC2505 also along the tube MC240. Love them both! Note the MC2505 also has the output transformers like a tube amp.
