The fact that this is a DEMO. I´m sure that if this song was ever completed it would either cause a world peace or the end of human kind.

I’ve been asking myself how this was only a demo since the day it came out. I bought the deluxe version of the album just to have this song

@oliviacannon-moses8697 yup! if they went out with a full orchestra this single track would have the same cost as the entire album. From what the net says + life performances, Which Witch is far from it's final form. And I'm scared of it. It's too powerful.

Agreed! I’ve just become a recent fan of Florence and the Machine and I’m ashamed of myself! Growing up as a musician influenced by Enya, Kate Bush , Meg Myers , Tori Amos !!! I am in LOVE WITH EVERYTHING ABOUT FLORENCE WELCH

believe it was a song that she wrote at the beginning of writing HBHBHB where she was still a bit stuck on Ceremonials and had to write her way out of that era. Markus pushed her quite a lot to veer away from that vibe. Minus the brief horn section this song would have fit too easily on Ceremonials, lyrically as well as sonically. It’s a fan favourite though so glad she still released it

Everything about this song is perfect. Can you imagine what this would look like if a symphony or marching band played it?! Gorgeous and intense.

I absolutely love this song! and The lyrics is also put on the video really well! l l l l l l l l lbut truly? whitches were aggresively burned, but it was also pretty calm in a lot of places, they were just like "Do you think you did something wrong?" if yes, then just don't do it again. Most people convicted of being witches, went free. l l l l l l l l l l l I've had a presentation about the witch burnings in school and here is some of what I found out ( timeline, translated via. Google translate, since the original wasn't in english) Timeline (Pt. 1 ) Approx. 160 AD was "the golden donkey" written where there were descriptions of the Thessalian witches. they were witches who anointed their bodies with oils and turned into owls. ------------------------------------------- Approx. 500 the Lex Salica was written which was a tribal law for the new Christian Salic Franks on the lower Rhine. It said that if a witch (in Latin strix) was convinced to have eaten a person, she or he should be sentenced to death for the murder. ------------------------------------------- and The medieval church considered the belief in witches to be a pagan superstition according to the Canon Episcopi from the 9th century and was incorporated in the decretum Gratiani. The priests had to preach against the witch belief in women who claimed to have flown over the sky in the company of the goddess Diana, as this was a "pagan superstition" ------------------------------------------- In 1090 near Munich, three women were burned as witches. It is said in a chronicle from the time that they died as martyrs. ------------------------------------------- The Malleus Maleficarum is a handbook on the execution of witch trials which was published in 1487. After much research, researchers have found that it had as much importance as previously thought. ------------------------------------------- 1575 - 1675 was the high point of the European witch persecution, however it was already on the way back in 1660 in most places in Western Europe. ------------------------------------------- In 1610, witch burnings were resumed due to the witch hysteria in France. The inquisitor Alonso de Salazar Frías traveled to the Basque Country and interrogated many people. Salazar wrote a report in which he said that "there were neither witches nor witches before people started talking and writing about them" ------------------------------------------- In 2013, a woman named Kepari Leniata in New Guinea was burned alive as a witch. ------------------------------------------- In 2022, 59-year-old Jostina Sangweni was attacked by 2 men who accused her of being a witch, after which they abused and burned her. She later died from her injuries. If anybody wish to learn more about the witch trials, and other people who were convicted for saying something the church deemed wrong, I recommend using sources like Britannica. this is ofc mostly in western europe, since I didn't focus on the whole world in my presentation.
