No it's not. It's actually valueless. The gold is atomized and sprayed on the bill, and it's 1/100th an oz for a 10. An actual fair price would be about 28-30 bucks if you were buying it at the cost of gold. But, notice how I said it was atomized and sprayed. You can't just melt one of these down for the gold. You can melt 10 of the 10's down for gold and you STILL won't be able to retrieve any reasonable amount of gold. Realistically, you'd have to pay $4,000 for an ounce of gold when anywhere else an ounce is worth $1900, and then you'd have to melt it down and rerefine it to remove the other material. The only people buying these are idiots who think other people will see value in these worthless scraps of paper, which no one who collects gold or currency would. I'd avoid these as much as I avoid the "24k special 2023 commemorative [insert coin here] because the metal value is so low and labor cost associated with extracting the precious metals would cost more than the value of the metals retrieved. Goldbacks are a scam.

And actually, the whole "value" is staged. The website for goldbacks actually stated they use prices people have paid for their goldbacks to judge how much one goldback is worth. If you were to buy a goldback at $5 instead of $4, the price of the goldbuck goes up. It's completely fueled by the market. As soon as people stop buying them, the value will drop to the spot price of gold, or less considering the process needed to make that gold useable again If I were to start a company and cut up a piece of paper into 100 strips, and sold one strip for $5, I could say the value of the remaining strips were also $5 each, even if they aren't, and I can publish a valuation of my company claiming it's worth $500 because of one $5 sale and an inventory "valued" at $495. Goldbacks basically did the same thing. They produced a product that, in reality, is $2, and they sold it to a few people for $4, and then they claimed the value to be $4 because select individuals paid $4 for the product. Then they give social media personalities a few to give out to keep the hype going and make people think they're being used and are actually valuable to ordinary people. Redbull had a similar marketing campaign where they filled trashcans with their empty cans so people thought everyone drank them. Here, goldbacks is throwing their product at infuencers to make it seem like a valid product you need that other people also want when they don't. If you want gold, buy bullion. Don't go for gold plated or gold sprayed gimmicks like this

Today, we incorporate gold in electronic components and cables, medicine, space science, etc. We will likely never stop finding gold valuable, and chances are, the value will only go up, even if we did start mining asteroids for gold.

Okay so I'm kinda opposed to goldback on the grounds that they claim they're "valid for barter or trade" Literally any physical object can be used in barter or trade. It's like they have to pull their sales pitch out of their asses. They're trying to make their product seem more valuable/practical than it actually is. You can barter with any object. They're overhyping the product by making it seem like if you buy one you're a pioneer or gold digger bartering for your next room at the ranch. I could literally barter or trade a rock I find outside. Remember, kids, Goldbacks are not useable gold. You can't melt a bunch of them into a bar. It's gold leaf that's been atomized and sprayed onto paper. You'd get an equivalent amount of gold, for free, from a bottle of Goldschlager. These bills currently hold, and will hold, little to no real world value, because gold in such small quantities or gold that's been atomized and sprayed on a piece of paper, has zero practical use. If the dollar were to fail, these bills would hold little value because they'd be valueless to the person you're trying to barter with

That being so I was mining with three GPUs in 2011, mining a coin every two to three days depending on the hash rate of the mining pool and how many people the find was split between. Mined at 1 tera hash in 2012 making 1 to 2 coins a day. Never did save in in a secrete wallet because I was part of the underground trade. Moral of the story is if you have extra cash invest and put some back because you never know what it might do. I would have been a billionaire if I saved half of what I mined. If if was a fifth we would all be drunk.

The value of a gold back is less than it's claimed equivalence to gold because it requires work with uncommon equipment to be done to it to recover the gold. What would be better is a promissory note that is equivalent to a piece of gold. That would require much less work to recover the gold. In order to get the gold from these notes you must vaporize them in a crucible which not everyone has and means labor costs decrease the value of each one. The point of a currency being backed by gold is that you can actually get the physical gold with it. If you can't do that or how much work it takes to do that determines the currencies value.
