Did this when I went to watch the tour of Britain time trial up there 2 year ago. The teams were warming up / doing a recce on there as I was on it. Froome and all. Closed to cars. Very surreal 😃 went up Newlands after too.

That sounds fab; my most surreal was the first time I rode the Fred Whitton in 2015. The official advice was to spectate around the MTB centre at the top. Unfortunately what this meant was that, due to the number of riders riding up Whinlatter, none of the cars could get past because of all the people who’d finished spectating their family and friends were driving _down_ it. Plenty of odd burning smells and two definite dead clutches...

Wheelygood Cycling ah yes the smell of burning clutches and brakes that accompany big climbs 🤣

It’s not quite so common these days with the increasing number of automatics on the road these days. Mind you, doesn’t matter what transmission you have when you’re following a cyclist up Hardknott... 😳😂

Finally did this one today , it’s the easiest of all the main climbs in the lakes almost a chill out climb so I did it twice but only so I can enjoy the descent , nice views up there and was a sunny day

It's definitely the most relaxing of all the major passes - it's even easier from the other side... Sounds like an excellent day out! Are you on Strava?

@@WheelygoodCycling yup on Strava , only being back at work now there be less chances to get hence I’ve been out lots lately lol

Yeah, that work thing is a PITA sometimes! I’d love to get a motor home and go around the country riding climbs, but, sadly, there’s a mortgage to pay…
