3:26 So as a disclaimer I don't know if this is strictly true - I read a lot of pop psychology as a kid because I had no friends and somehow thought books would help. But that's one of those things that supposedly does make social connection easier! If you get someone to do a favor for you, then they know that you owe one back, so they'll want to stick around you to collect. Which is a very transactional understanding of icebreaker exchanges along the lines of "can I borrow your pencil," so again, take with a grain of salt. But if you're willing to commit money to a sort-of friend, I bet you'd rank that friend a little higher at the end of the day than you would have otherwise, to justify your choice lol
