Note from Little Drummer Channel: These live versions (listed below) of “Whipping Post” allow us to see and hear the beauty of true and spontaneous improvisation! The Allman Brother Band organic creativity and raw visceral sound are a couple of reasons they were able to sustain being a band for over 40 years. The money and fame were not the drivers of motivation…the pureness and creativity of the musical moment was. Here's a link to the original album version of “Whipping Post” (without my drums): kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaLKZaeXnrGFiKc Here is a more recent live performance of “Whipping Post”. This lets you hear how the song and the band have changed through the years. Allman Brothers, "Whipping Post," 12/3/2011 Orpheum Theater Boston, MA: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHLIm5d6r89sabM This is one of my biggest influences and favorite bands…The Allman Brothers Band! This song “Whipping Post” is also in my top 10 favorite songs list. This has always been a very emotional song for me to listen to and play. The Allmans Brothers were unbelievable to hear, see and feel live in concert. They always remind me of an unstoppable freight train when they were in the middle of their jam sections and nothing could slow them down. They were always breathing with the song and playing for the true emotion of the music and the moment. A band that worked so well together even as large as they were, with two drummers, a percussionist, two guitarist, a bassist and an organ…they were a force to be heard and felt for decades! The Allman Brothers typically liked to record live together in the studio and generally liked to get takes all at the same time to really capture the true emotion of the band and their music. This song was a bit tricky to cover due to this approach and the slight sway of the tempo at times…which is just what needed to occur in this tune. This song takes on a life of its own due to this visceral and raw recording approach. The strength and passion in Gregg Allman's vocals along with the force of the band made this song an absolute timeless one. I hope that you enjoy this tune, and for some young musicians just getting started I really encourage you to study some of this band’s music, especially their live performances! Enjoy friends, I am far from doing it justice, but it was a blast to play along with these musical heroes!! **Whipping Post time signatures: Played in 11, verse 12/8, verse ending 6/8, back to 11**

Thanks very much! I really love this tune...something special about it for sure. I was not really sure about playing it because its kind of like one of those tunes you just listen to and don't try to redo. ;) I did do my best to keep it unchanged...thanks for noticing! It was tough to do, due to the band having two amazing drummers and a fabulous percussionist. Check out the description box for this video when you get a chance, I you had't yet. ;) Take care! Good question and observation as well! Unfortunately my Westone UM Pro 30 in ears had a slight hiccup and I had to send them back for a tune up ;). Westone is an amazing company that is in Colorado and has an American made product! They got started making hearing aids and still do. They also provide our military with monitoring devices as well. Check out video descriptions for all of our gear used in each video ;). I try to do my best to keep it up to date with each video. ;) See you bro! Little Drummer Channel ;)

Glad you liked the tune and the new camera angle...not as cool as all of yours, but we are trying to increase our learning curve when it comes to video. ;) Recently got a GoPro Hero 4 Silver. Little Drummer Channel Well thanks man! That's great to hear, really appreciate those kind words! Sounds like you're on the right track. Great, maybe we're on the right track! I did notice that the picture quality on the GoPro with the Field of View set to "Narrow" seems to be a bit grainy and lower quality. Have you had this issue, or know of a solution? Is it due to the camera being such a ultra-wide angle lens, and its cropping the image/video internally? We are new with GoPro ;) Thanks Matt!
@mgtimp7 жыл бұрын
Little Drummer Channel I guess they do their best work at medium and wide. I've found that grainy/lower quality image is usually due to an issue with lighting. I use narrow for my foot cam and it works just fine.
