A major! It's so refreshing to hear this played in the proper key. Everyone plays it in A minor, although that's completely wrong. Thanks for getting it right.

No prob. Yeah, it's sounds like it 'should' be A minor so a lot people get mixed up.

Can you explain to me why it’s A major? They are consistently playing the flat third, which is the minor third of the chord (C, not C#). Even in the chord progression, you’re going to a minor third, so I don’t know where you’re getting A major from.

@@saloonno1232 it’s actually A dorian (relative to G major), which can be soloed over with A min pentatonic or blues scale and changing between C and C# (min to maj 3rd) is an old blues trick. So what Allmans do is kinda genious, they mix it up - progression vamps between A maj - B min7 - A min!!! - B min7. Really cool twist on blues, hats off to Allmans!

@@saloonno1232 Think of it as a blues, which it really is. Although one tends to play in a minor key for solos and improvisation (either pentatonic or dorian), you still play a major third in the chords. Check out this version of the song from 1973. Good job dude ! Some bandmates and I did "whipping post" close to 50yrs ago. No internet back then so we'd wear out a turntables stylus as well as the vinyl album. lifting the arm up and down over and over trying to figure out the parts. Our drummers older brother was stationed in Germany (Nam was finally over) he sent us info on some great reel to reel units. We pooled up and bought one. To get a big discount his brother had to buy it in his name and ship thru the Army. He got the unit and shipped for less than half cost we could buy the unit. You play both parts pretty much as I recall only better. Man I'd like the info on the guitar you use on this video, it looks and sounds great. It looks light also I'm tired of feeling like boat anchors are attached to my strap..

And if you need a video or a tab to figure out the opening lick of this song, pawn your guitar and get some golf clubs or something.
