I was thinking of getting that pole. I get one penn fierce 2 6000 with 30lbs power pro. What you think of that setup if I use those diawa lures?

that reel that you used when you caught the omilu...it looked like a penn battle w all that holes on the spool. Just windering it you caught anything bigger and if that reel haddled the pressure

10' penn prevail is really good. Got a fast tip for fast hook ups and the best thing about it is that its the best bang for your buck fishing pole for under $60. I have that same 9' uglystik and lost alot of fish because the hook tends to not set because if that soft tip. I just notice the fish tends to spit the hook out most of the time. Dont get me wrong its a good pole but not for plugging or whipping. You wont be dissapointed w that penn prevail!
@kaikovaldez56332 жыл бұрын
I have a pen battalion 10’ feels super stiff .. should I try whipping with that pole?
@papiomasta11952 жыл бұрын
@@kaikovaldez5633 so the difference between the Penn Prevail and a pen battalion is the materials in the line guides and the real seat the Battalion has Fuji guides and Fuji seats
@papiomasta11952 жыл бұрын
If you're going to use it to whip use the big water bubble or Hammer bomb or stick baits just be aware of the lure weight
@papiomasta11952 жыл бұрын
Just know after a while or 45 minutes your arms going to be hammered. Daiwa acculite 9 ft heavy 17 to 20 lb Roddy Reaper salmon steelhead up to 17 lb Fenwick Eagle 96 salmon steelhead okuma nesika okuma celilo salmon steelhead they are all good rods fast tip and don't break the wallet. Uglystik gx2 good rod but tip way too soft. Here's the thing... when the rod is soft and don't have a fast tip when a fish bites there's no backbone at the tip. The tip don't spring back to set the hook or the hookset is bad what happened is most times the fish will be holding the hook in its mouth and the hook isn't set therefore the fish ends up spitting the hook and you lose the fish. The bigger the fish gets the jawbone is harder to pierce so a soft tip pole has a hard time setting the hook through that thicker jaw bone
@kaikovaldez56332 жыл бұрын
Okay thank you for the great tips!

What knot do you use in connecting your 80lb. leader to the SP Minnow? TIA.
@islandhooking19367 жыл бұрын
The Rapala loop knot if I'm directly attaching it to the lure. Or I use the shoreline fisherman knot.

Nice catch. Too bad for the gaff. Do you normally fish those kine remote spots solo? I do as well and was wondering if you carry any safety gear, for those "oh shit" moments?
@islandhooking19367 жыл бұрын
Hello Chandler yes I usually fish solo and it can be spooky especially if the waves are big. But I do have a safety floatation device strapped to my wrist that is CO2 activated. Check online for the Kingii. Its better to have and not need it, then to need it and not have it.

@johnsurf5097 жыл бұрын
your rod too soft you should get a stiffer rod so you get more control of the fish, nice catch ,penn prevail 12' rod would be perfect for that kind of fishing, good catch and good show, thanks for shareing
@islandhooking19367 жыл бұрын
Hey John totally agree. And I do have bigger and stiffer poles that I could use, but the only reason I use the softer one is only when I use the Diawa sp minnows. It seems to work better than the stiffer ones because I can feel the lure better and I know when the lure is moving to fast or to slow it helps me control the lure better. I get better results so I tend not to change what works. Other than that I use my bigger rods. What people don't see is that every trip I have my big rod with me but always no luck yet but they love my Diawa and my Ugly Stik go figure lol.

Hi I watch your video a lot looks like you need to set your hook before you start fighting the fish, just give it couple of hard tug cuz it happens to me a lot loosing the fish but a friend told me set the hook
@islandhooking19367 жыл бұрын
Hey Richard I totally agree, it;s just that when dealing with the Diawa they have small trebles and lots of times they get hooked on the lips or body and by setting the hooks you take the chance in ripping the hook out. too many times i lost them by setting the hook so now I just put consistant pressure and tiny tugs enough to keep the hook in but not enough to rip the hooks out. But now with the upgrades on the hooks to bigger single hooks hoping I'll get a better lock on the fish and can now set the hook more effectively with the tugs. Iv'e dealt with the Diawa enough to know the pros and cons of the lure but hoping my new upgrades will increase the percentage but time will tell. But good info and good point about setting the hooks very important tip. Catch the Monster fish my friend. Thank you.

Do they try and blast through a bait ball first? Then pick up the wounded. Only reason I made the last comment was in Washington if it's noT hooked in the mouth it goes back or you get a ticket. No disrespect meant.
@islandhooking19367 жыл бұрын
LOL no there is no ticket here but sometimes they do get snagged when they strike and move the wrong way. Fishes makes mistakes too .Won't be the first won't be the last.
