Whirlpool OTR Microwave door doesn’t close/microwave door reset interlock

THANK YOU! This video gave me the courage to open up the microwave and take a look. The bottom interlock was actually broken which looks alittle different than the top unit, but I was able to figure out how to reset it based on this video. Thanks so much again!

Thank you so much!!! This worked for me. Just bought my first house and this issue just started this morning. I fixed it myself in about 10 minutes thanks to your video! ❤ The only thing I would add is that the vent on the top fought me a bit, trying to get it back into place. I had to push downwards on the panel with more force than expected to lock it back into place before I could get all 3 screws fastened.

Just wanted to comment and say that your simple or straight to it video saved a family member What I'm sure would have been a lot of money for repairman to come out for a simple couple of screws and popping the latches back with your finger. I was so nervous thinking I closed it and broke it I was so confused but this is one of the first couple of videos I found. Thank you very much

HOLY FREAKING CRAPOLA THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH!!! I was fiddling with the latches to see why the door wasn't always registering as closed and.... POP POP... they both pulled themselves into the abyss of the microwave innards in, what I can only assume, was an act of violence towards me for trying too fiddle with things beyond my abilities!!! I thought I broke them, but still thought they looked like they were sitting in there just out of reach. Was just about to start deep cleaning my entire apartment and degrease the crevasses of the microwave not yet discovered... ***not because I'm a hoarder, I promise - just your run of the mill anxiety that my place look unlived in to guests or they will think I'm a disgusting trash person and kick me out... no big deal :)*** ... and once I'm done deep cleaning in a few days... finally call my apartment maintenance and hope they can fix it and also do not blame me/charge me for breaking it.... AHHHH! BUT! YOU SAVED ME FROM GOING THROUGH ALL OF THAT! AAND! You made me look like a badass to my husband when I fixed it and then got to (super casually and not in a gloating way at all) tell him that I fixed the door issue on my own, and it was "No big deal... just had to open up the microwave and do some work behind the electronic panel... easy peasy, and yes - I DID remember to unplug it beforehand. Also, when I put it all back together and plugged it in - IT WORKS! and now the door shuts. BOOM!" All that to say - Thank you so much for making this very niche and obscure video for me and the few others out there who find themselves facing the consequences of their need to fiddle with things they don't understand! Thanks! That fixed the problem for me. I was kind of surprised because both interlocks "appeared" to be in the correct position, but I pushed them in and back out just to be safe. Started it back up and no more error message! Thanks for the video.

Great help! I was getting the open door message and I jammed the 2 clips by mistake and thought I had broken the jams because it would not close. I did this and reset the clips. cleaned the edges around the door and it works perfectly. Very good video, saved me $$

Thanks for the video. Just a heads up. Never run the microwave empty. Even for testing. throw a cup of water in there. The microwave energy needs to go somewhere.

I fixed mine with a small crochet hooked needle and in the upper hole reached in and pulled the white plastic back into place.

🆘 Think twice before you buy the Whirlpool microwave in the above video. When the light won’t shut off the only way to fix it is to buy a new motherboard, and they range in price from $155 to over $350 plus tax and shipping. And it’s an inherent problem in this Whirlpool microwave unit 0:05 wmh53521hz. The guy in the video does an excellent job showing how to replace it but you can buy a new microwave for $450 or LED stick up under cabinet lights for under $10 as a solution.

Ok I did this and it didnt seem to be out of place but I moved it back & forth a coille times. I closed the door and microwave came on by itself!! Help! I cant change timer or anything. I open door, it shuts off, close it, it starts. What in the world have I done? 😩

I'm not an expert by any means, but in the beginning of the video where you show the front of the microwave, it looks like the door could be sagging just a little bit. I wonder if this could be the cause. It is kind of a heavy door for a microwave. Just wanted to mention it just in case this didn't work for anyone else out there.

The moment you realize you have to be a mr. fix it to close you rmicrowave door because some people need a sensor to remember to close the door. Either people are getting dumber or manufacturers are getting smarter.
