With using circle hooks I don't usually use my clicker either, you want the fish to be able to load the road up. But I still like the clickers lol. As long as the rod eyes aren't fraying your line you should be good to go. But your right usually it's braid that will do that to rod eyes or inserts but not usually mono.

I’ve never seen mono cut the eyes of a rod but I have seen braid do it. I have that same 9’ 6” rod I run 30 lb big game on it. I’m going to have to check the eyes now lol
