Whiskey Myers Stone is a great song to learn on guitar. There are lots of lessons and tutorials out there... this is the only one that will definitively teach you how to approach this Whiskey Myers song, Stone. Here, you'll learn the Stone chords and movements. This Stone tutorial correctly shows how to execute the song in the proper key, while teaching rhythm consistent and sensible to how Whiskey Myers plays. You will be accurately covering this song after following this lesson.
Guitar lessons in person are expensive, this is free. Other guitar tutorials on youtube can be risky for your playing habits, because you may be taught faulty mechanics and spend time practicing incorrect short cut versions of a song. This video wont do that to you.

Noah I really appreciate the comment! That’s what I always hope when I post a tutorial, that it makes a song someone has always wanted to play reachable for them. Keep hammering at it and it will completely become second nature to your fingers without you realizing it in the moment ... then about a week after that point you’ll realize you’ve already mastered it

basically just pick the d string then full strum with the hammer on, then the chord change with full strumming, its kinda just what ever strumming ya can do and itll sound pretty close

How long does it usually take u to learn/figure out the chords and stuff for a song?
@TimGuitarLessons
@TimGuitarLessons 5 жыл бұрын
It varies from song to song... My ear is usually pretty good at hearing standard chords, and I generally am able to recognize and know them in real time as I'm listening to the song for the first time... so for something like this I can learn it with just a listen or two to try to memorize when and how the chord changes occur... and maybe a few play-throughs to try to get the nuance and feel right. I'm incredibly fortunate to have been able to hone that skill like I have... but it's just the result of a ton of experience and intentional practice to learn songs by ear. Songs that have more intricate, non-chord driven riffs, or a certain playing technique that I just don't have a firm grasp on, it might take me as little as 30 minutes to figure something out or as long as a week of intentional practice to get it right. For instance, "Streetlights" by Jason Isbell uses a hybrid picking pattern that relies on holding a pick between thumb and first finger and executing one picking patter, while simultaneously using the second and third fingers on the picking hand to fill out the riff with a separate picking pattern. That took me FOREVER to learn, and if I tried to play it again right this second I bet it'd take me having to rewatch my own lesson to remember what I was doing, and then about 30 minutes of solid practice to get it smooth again. Meanwhile, this song (Stone) is based around a chord progression and a riff that is very similar in structure and feel to a song called Wedding Dress by Derek Webb that I played a lot in high school... so I was able to "learn" this song just by hearing it once, taking inventory of my mental guitar "toolbox" in terms of what I expect the song to feel like on guitar under my fingers, and then picking up a guitar and playing it. I usually play it out of my head a few times, then play it with the artist's recording a few times to firm up and fill in any gaps that might have been there in playing it out of my head, turn off the artist recording and play it from my head again to make sure I have it, and the I'll record the lesson.

Also, I will absolutely watch videos of the song being played live too... I don’t want to give the impression that I never just look and see how a song is played by watching the songwriter actually play it, because that’s the easiest way to make sure you have it right...
