WHISKEY THROTTLE SPOTLIGHT STAR YAMAHA YZF250

This is a special one! Ping test rides Justin Coopers Star Yamaha YZ250F at the GOAT Farm. This is the same bike that J Coop races in the Lucas Oil Promotocross series. Ping was granted unprecedented access the Star Racing facility and spins some laps on the fastest 250 in the pits.

I like how Justin Cooper's advice to ping was to just hang on. You can see the obvious advantage in the bikes watching Haiden Deegan kind of blow the start at Red Bud this week. He got squirly in the first half of the start straight, then hit the gas half way down the start straight and caught right back up by the first turn.

@@davidpingree9254 its brutal. I work in the oilfield in west Texas. Was in Louisiana a few years back. The summers were brutal there. Hot, humid, and no wind because those pads are completely surrounded by 80' pine trees. Great episode, glad you made it out alive lol

My question would be.........how close can you get the engine through aftermarket upgrades? If one were to buy a 250f and you're a 195 lb C-Level rider can you build the engine to be as good as this engine?

If you want more power just ride a bigger bike maybe get a 350

@@derekdreke4990 I ride a KTM 350SXF. I had a YZ450F. I ask because I'm interested in getting a YZ250F if they have the power that everyone raves about. I git rid of the 450 because it was a bit too much. Now I've gotten far better. So I'm considering going back to the 450. But I wonder if the 250 will be more fun. If you've ridden long enough you know that yes 450 has a lot of power. Thus you can lug it. Etc. But it can also result in a crash because of that power when a less powerful bike might have ended just sketchy moment. Being a better rider rather than just adding more power is the way to go. So I'm curious if this 250 can make comparable power to a 350 I'd get it.

The hard part is the 250's require so much more maintenance and the more powerful you make it the less reliable it gets / more maintenance. So if you don't mind working on it then not a big deal. I'd just ride a 450 if i was you that's what i do and i love it

No, but with weight adjustment it’s close. And it’s easier to ride.

@@davidpingree9254 must be a blast to ride. I heard they got close to 60hp on factory 250 so that’s why I asked. I always thought that was crazy. I can see in the 50s but 60 seems excessive
