Whisky Wednesday - Amrut Peated Cask Strength 62.3%

Indian whisky is a combination of the very familiar, teamed with exotic and different approaches to flavour and maturation. Amrut has always been a favourite of mine, this example uses peated European barley that is imported into India, distilled and matured by themselves - the bottled at cask strength, with this example anyway. Love the 50% Fusion which has become better in the open bottle where nail polish and solvent notes dissipated over time. I'd like to try this version. Cheers WW!

Aqvavitae Do have a big soft spot for the Fusion, this is my favourite in the range, much more expensive but a slower drinker for sure. Cheers, Roy.

I haven't tried the cask strength but I recall the peated amrut being the best of the handfull I tried at a festival sometime back. Thanks for the review :)

when smelling it i cant really say what it smells like, i know its smoke but it has some distinctive taste to it, i dont know anything about tasting whisky and how to recognize smells and flavours

Good choice of review and I recently had some of this myself. I just finished a bottle of regular Amrut Peated at 46% which I believe is just as good, maybe better, and a fair bit cheaper. I really like it. Like you I'm very fond of all the Amruts I've had and think they are worth the money. I think this thing about tropical ageing and maturity is over the top. To say this is as mature as a 25 year old Scottish whisky is daft. Time needs to work its magic. Tropical heat does amazing things with a cask but that does not necessarily translate into overall well balanced maturity. For that you need time. No criticism of Amrut though. Great stuff. Cheers

Agree on the maturation, another reason to embrace world whiskies and their differences. The idea that a tropical climate accelerates the ageing is anecdotal, it's simply different. You're a scholar WT.

Welsh Toro Agreed, the statistics are a bit all over the place and it is about how tome works and sadly, we can’t control that. But yes, all Amrut is very, very good! Cheers, man.
