This is for the Whispers of Lumina video game trailer competition.
With the exception of a few themes I wrote for the Udemy video game music composition course, this is my first thing, really.
It was fun!
Lots of experimentation with sound design, and I got to do some quasi-diegetic music (is it diegetic if nobody is around to hear it? Because... they all disappeared), which is one of my favorite things. The goal was to have three sound palettes. The first is "analog" in the form of a simple flute solo, which is an innocent observation of the beautiful visuals, before the viewer is given any information. The second is heavily electronic and reacts to the information given along the way. The third is also "analog" but heavily processed with filters and reverb to give a vintage feel, representing echoes of the past - music within the music. The brief talked about what a joyful place Lumina was before it was devastated in some way, so a brisk waltz, carnival music, and a raucous big band tune is meant to illustrate how full of life (and music!) the place used to be.
Thanks to @MartinHeidenreichMusic and @MarikaSchanz for the opportunity. #WhispersofLumina
