If the US has her way, Taiwan would be her 51st state ..... like Hawaii was her 50th state. There is no way in which China can be reunited with the island peacefully. The fact that neither of the ROC nor the PRC was invited to the San Francisco Conference in 1951 to finalize the outcome of WW2 indicated that the US had no intention of returning the island. The Conference was a convenient way for the US to do as she pleases. The presence of US NGOs on the island promoting ' democracy' and narratives favoring the US and bedeviling the PRC' for the last 3 decades cemented that intention.

There is one way I can think of: Don't get provoked, wait for the US to decline until it can't interfere, then reunite peacefully. It might happen. I think the US's capitalist system is dying. It has to deal with de-dollarization, loss of petro-dollars from green technology, AI destroying jobs, insane debt, failing banks, rapidly increasing cost of living, inflation, increasing homelessness, and increasing corporate greed. And this must happen with a severely divided and corrupt government, and with unbeatable competition from China. Unless we redistribute some wealth and dramatically shrink the "defense" budget, I don't see how it can continue, but we never do that. So sustaining peace for as long as possible might make the problem go away.

I think that any war breaking out between the US and China over Taiwan will not be as complicated for China as the Ukraine war is for Russia, given the fact that Taiwan is an island and cannot be as easily resupplied as is Ukraine. Because of its land borders with other European states, NATO is able to smuggle arms into Ukraine which would not be so easily done due to the waters surrounding Taiwan and the inability to approach the island without being detected and most likely destroyed. It must however be noted that the US does not respect the sovereignty of most other countries and these sales of weapons to Taiwan show complete disrespect and disregard for China's sovereignty.

Perhaps the editors at CGTN should actually visit Taiwan for themselves. They might be pleasantly surprised by what they find, and what Taiwan has that China, ruled from a few small offices in Zhongnanhai, singularly lacks: A government that respects it's population and is responsive to their needs. Some day, the three principles of the people will exist on both sides of the straits. The funny thing in this is that the day PRC would be mature enough state to unify with Taiwan, is the day when it no longer needs or demands unification either. Now they want it because of prestige and power, and those are the wrong reasons. It's the day when they no longer want control over it, is the day they are mature enough to have the reunification, but then again it might be unnecessary. If they still choose to do it, then it will happen peacefully.

It is about preventing the USA from placing missiles in Taiwan to attack China. The same playbook the US led NATO used in Ukraine against Russia and just like Ukraine, it will not turn out well for Taiwan...or the USA. The USA has around 400 military bases around China. How many has China around the USA? None. So who is the real aggressor? In 1962, the US shit their pants when the Soviets placed missiles in Cuba in retaliation for the US placing missiles in Turkey. Cuba is over 1500 miles away from the US mainland. Taiwan is less than 80 miles to mainland China and Taiwan's Kinmen island is barely a mile away. US special forces are already in Kinmen training the army in violation of the US's own "One China" policy.

I think it’s the other way around, Philippines. Those islands are charted by Guo Shoujing of the Yuan Dynasty of China commissioned by Kublai Khan. China has older maps than the ones left to Philippines by their Spanish colonizers.
