My R1 arrived this morning, so once the battery is charged I'll be watching this. Can't wait.

"Detect priority AE while AF" only works when the meter is set to Evaluative (won't work on spot or any other meter mode). When enabled, "Metering is based on the AF point or area where the subject was detected" (per Canon R1 manual).
@mikede246420 күн бұрын
High speed display is only available when the drive mode is set to High in mechanical shutter mode. It helps eliminate/reduce EVF blackout by mixing shot images with live images....kind of looks like a super fast moving slide show.

Hello,What is the lens that you recommend for the R1?the RF 200-800 or the Rf 100-500 L with 1.4x? Or going with the R5ii better?Waiting for your comparison between the r1 and R5 mark ii cheers
@whistlingwingsphotographyАй бұрын
For bird photography I like the RF 200-800 on the R1. The lens is sharp and the AF is quick, keeping up with the fastest approaching birds I have shot and they are pretty fast. As you know the 200-800 is not the fastest lens but with the R1's great ISO performance you can shoot higher ISO to get your shutter speed up for BIF shots without sacrificing much image quality. The RF 100-500 is a great lens, but the focal length is not as appropriate for birds as getting out to 800mm is on the 200-800. You can put a 1.4x TC on the 100-500 and get to 700mm, but then you are at a slower f than you can get at 800 with the 200-800. Overall, I love the 200-800 at the price point it is offered. Thanks for watching and commenting. It is much appreciated. Cheers, Ron

Sir, What do you recommend between the Nikon Z8+PF 800mm f6.3 vs Canon Eos R1+200-800mm RF?100-500mm Rf l with 1.4x? Give me reasons.
@whistlingwingsphotography24 күн бұрын
Well, first of all, you can't go wrong with any of the items you listed. They all perform well. Second, given I do not know what you shoot or how you shoot it is very difficult for me to recommend anything. Do you need the flexibility of a zoom lens? Both zooms you mention are great IQ-wise and much cheaper than the PF 800. With the 1.4xTC they are both still very good IQ and fast focus on the R1. However, they are slower. Is that an issue for you taking into account the great ways we have available to us these days to deal with noise at higher ISO settings? If noise is a big issue for you then the R1 would be an awesome choice. Lowest noise at ISO settings up the 40,000+ I have ever seen in RAW images. Of course, the R1 is 24mp and the Z8 is 45mp. Is that a big deal to you, the difference in resolution? I can tell you the R1 IQ is as good as I have ever seen. AF on the R1 is great. Better than the Z8? Well, that is a tough call to make as they are all so very good these days. So, no real answer to your question, because it all depends on what you feel is most important to your photography. Cheers, Ron

@@whistlingwingsphotography Thanks.I am also a wildlife photographer. I mainly do birds.Then what will be your choice?I know the Pf 800mm f6.3 is an amazing lens compared to the other 2 mentions.Still what keeps holding me is that while Z8 is a great body,R1 is also superb. I would like to know you pro opinion too. Cheers,Methul

Thanks for your concise video on how you setup the R1 up. I have the R1 with the rf 200-800 and very happy with combo. Can I ask do you have any preference on how you setup Pre-shooting feature?
@whistlingwingsphotographyАй бұрын
Thank you so much for watching. Pre-cont. shooting is on half-press of the shutter button as it works well for me. Half-press to activate and go to full press to record the pre-cont. images and any images while shooting. Don't want the pre-cont images just let up on the half-press and those images will not be recorded to your card. After some work with it, I like it. Cheers, Ron

Hi Ron, why do you mostly use zone 3 AF, with a long prime such as a 600mm you already have a much reduced FOV wouldn't it be easier to use whole area AF ?
@SamNutton4 күн бұрын
Ron why do you use Af zone 3 most of the time ? With a 600mm prime you have a very much reduced FOV already wouldn't it be easier to use to use the whole area AF with long prime lenses ?

A great video of R1! Had the settings improved the AF of birds with strong back light as you mentioned wherever the R52 is better in your last video?
@whistlingwingsphotographyАй бұрын
I am still finding that very bright backgrounds cause the R1 to struggle with eye detection. It does fine with overall AF on the bird, but it looses the eye and goes to whole bird a lot under those conditions. R5II does not do this nearly as much. Cheers, Ron

Excellent setup! I will run over my R7 again especially since the latest update appears to have reset all my custom dial modes. I’d like Canon the flag on their menu, which setting gets saved against a custom mode dial (or what doesn’t). The override ISO, shutter speed and aperture min and max are global, and it makes Astro settings or Timelapse settings difficult. Tbh I guess they are not true profiles which to me would affect every setting. The profiles could be improved since they don’t exist on bodies other than the R5, R1 or R3 lines. So custom modes, are not sufficient enough

Agree on setup except for pre capture. Mostly run lenses wide open. Take useable images over 100k iso without post. A big ugly heavy beast that takes better imagery than any box I ever tried. No way this is 24mp. Got to be twice that. Can’t really tell the R1 has a buffer at craw 30fps. Forensic use dictates gps.

I am sorry you feel as such. I could just talk like a computer and rush through, but what fun would that be. I provide chapters so folks can skip around and watch only what they want/need. Overall, there is no way to keep a video that covers the entire menu system of the Canon R1 in 10 minutes. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Ron
