Whit Walks, Uppermill, 25th May, 2018.

On the morning of Friday, 25th May 2018 the traditional Whit Walks at Uppermill took place in quite wet weather. Although this failed to dampen the spirits of those participating it did affect the number of onlookers I think it fair to say. The usual crop of bands were out in force.

I can remember when these walks would have thousands of people walking proud of their faith be they Catholic or Protestant. Now so few seem to find time to partake in these walks. I left UK in 1966 and have lived in Africa since then. I have seen that many Churches have closed due to lack of congregations, I never thought I would see the day that people in the North West of England would abandon their religion which was hard won that allowed them to undertake the walks.

Values change over the years Michael and it's a very different world, sadly, to 1966. The other worry is will we ever see the like again due to the the current situation. I doubt there will be anything happening again this year and will there still be impetus for the following years?? Time will tell.

Hello, I don't know if you will get this message but I'm sure you have heard about the Brexit march that is on right now...... I wondered if you could or would know of a band or two that would march the Brexiteers into London?
