Whitby and York are both gorgeous towns. When people are trying to figure out where to go for a short holiday break in order to break up a long, dark winter in England and cheer themselves I always suggest those two cities/towns as they are atmospheric and the character seems enlivened in winter almost more than summer. If I wasn't tied up with work during the festive season, the places I'd most love to go are Germany and Austria for their infamous Krampus Nachts and magical Christmas markets. They look fantastic. Japan also has MANY of these traditional ghoulish nights of folkloric terror in THEIR small villages. Fascinating to learn about. Thank you for showing me what the folks of Whitby are up to this year! Much fun.

Super event and capture. Whitby doesn't half put on some great weekend events. Not only are they fabulous to see it must be great for the local economy. You guys must know the place inch by inch the amount we bestow on you each year! It’s a very charming place and well worth a visit. I cannot believe how many festivities are held there. On a side rant, ive just this week found out there is a board which decides which festivities happen when and where along our coast. There is a definite sense of favouritism on that board as the rest of us feel very neglected! ♥️

You are both so lucky to live so close to Whitby, it has some amazing and unique events. Perfect for folks who like dressing weird and fancy!! Wow minus five, that's a bit chilly!! What with the festive storefronts and the awesome Krampuses, what a great find! I love your music choice too. We popped to York Wednesday to visit our daughter, we should have ventured a bit further north to Whitby (although York alone was a blooming long day!), it looks awesome. Very atmospheric once it got dark for the run/parade. Bloopers made me smile lol x

Hi Nick and Jill doesn't Whitby have some fantastic and fascinating events. This one looks fabulous we had never heard of this one before this year. Those costumes have really been done so well. Haha ha brilliant, I loved it and love Whitby too, which also helps. Loved all the Christmas stuff in the windows and I hope this event can marry together with Christmas to make this an even bigger and better, just like the Goth Festival. I think the 199 steps would have been to much for them with all though bid costumes but great to see so many people out supporting the parade and what a great parade it was too. Despite the cold weather and annoying security guards, the second night parade was even better all lit up. Great to see the council supporting and promoting an event that will help not only the shops but the hotels and B&Bs, so well done to them and you for including the bloopers at the end lol, cheers Alan

absolutely right Alan. 🙏 there is a wider bid, that I’m in my early stages of finding out about, I think it’s called “Yorkshire Bid” and it allocates events to places on our coastline. well clearly it’s doing a worldclass business of promoting Whitby but why are the rest of us getting sidelined? early days to find answers. definitely worth a visit, wrap up VERY warm it is 2.5 hours of standing still but well worth it! have an amazing weekend!

Laurence Mitchell the organiser picked up a Krampus wooden figure whilst on holiday n the Czech Republic. After researching the figure an event was started to replicate the ones which take place in Austrian villages. But the legend of Krampus dates back as far as the 6th century!

@@GENerationXplorers thx for the answer, I am from southern Germany and am familiar with these runs even though we don't have them in our region (Franconia). So I was wondering how Krampus made it all the way to Whitby :). I thought maybe someone born and raised in the Krampus regions and then moved to England might have been involved, but one of the organisers picking up a wooden Krampus figurine in the Czech Republic is also a great origin :) Anyways, compliments to the organisers who made this into a now great event tradition. 😊

What a brilliant video, I'm a big fan of the TV show Supernatural and it made me think of the episode A Very Supernatural Christmas which involves the Krampus. I'm even more appreciative given the temperature. You must have both missed the hiking in minus five weather! Also I'm obsessed with Jill's boots, they are so cool. WOW! Was I hooked by this amazing film, the characters, costumes and setting blew me away! I’ve never heard of the Whitby Krampus Run but they certainly seem to do some amazing festivals in Whitby. Having Googled it I was surprised to see that in fact it’s all part of the Star Wars Trilogy. I’m not really into Star Wars (more of a 60s Star Trek man really). However, having seen these amazing colourful characters I must make the effort to watch some Star Wars films. Loved the Bloopers. thank you so much Rach and Wills. it was a proper awesome event that we cannot recommend highly enough. it was the first one in Britain 9 years ago and it’s about to get stratospheric,next year will be the year to go! so pleased to not get a hit on that great metal version of Santa coming to town. we lead with that, we needed a no copyright tune to match the awesome Heavy Metal Copyrighted music that belted our eardrums throughout the day. just mental, in an amazing way. love our boys making a cameo at the end. 🙏🍻

Well it looked a fantastic event! Lucky they were all dancing about in -7 🥶🥶🥶 I’ve seen the ceremonies on German channels and they look amazing. Every village in the Tirol Austria seems to have one too 👍👍👍

Great footage. The reason for the security guards is that a lot of our masks have very limited visibility, so the road is kept clear for ours and the public's safety .

thank you Sue, yes the visibility must be a huge issue, you all did wonderfully well. in the most part the security did an incredible job at working with the general public and making sure the event went without hiccup. there was just one or two over zealous ones that threatened to upstage the event, but ultimately the day will be remembered for the incredible effort put in by the Krampuses and for the money you raised for Whitby Disability Action Group. ♥️

Haha I cant believe how little I knew about these "people"😄 Also, being advertised as a Krampus "Run" I was quite surprised at the pace of the parade 🤣😂🤣about the same pace as my running at the moment 😂😆though maybe would have been a touch difficult in those costumes. Pretty amazing though a touch scary, bet the atmosphere was incredible but sooooo cold. Loved the out takes at the end and I was giggling along with you. I seem to be getting further behind watching your fab KZbin videos though always near the top of my agenda and always thinking of you. Lots of love to you both ❤❤xx

We're so incredibly behind, but couldn't possibly miss a Krampus run. For some reason, Krampus isn't so big here in the USA, and we think it should be. Way more of a fun and interesting character than Rudolph, for example 😁 Looks like such an amazing time, and worth the temporary finger freeze, for sure 👏
