White 2006 Macbook in 2023?

I bought one of these in 2006 o 2007 new. It was my first new Intel Mac laptop and I thought it was an amazing deal at the time compared to the intel macbook pro's. I ended up selling it about 6 months later because the screen bezel started to lift. This was a common problem because the adhesive holding the bezel on the screen would tend to heat and separate. The other thing I hated was the cheap looking shiny screen that looked like 35mm camera film in that it reflected everything. I ended up buying one of the Intel core2 duo Macbook Pros(before unibody) and I loved that machine until the video died. Luckily I got it repaired under recall. 🙂

Those were great models too. I paid for mine using a 30 pound study allowance the government used to give for going to vocational school. Took ages lol.

I had the Mac OS X installer on a seperate partition of the HDD and created it using disk utility and that worked.

I have no problems running latest Linux Mint Cinnamon and Xfce with my A1118 2007 Macbook . Also MacOS Lion, but Safari was useless, Chromium is better. I did re-pasted the CPU and running on 3GB, but I did change it with a SSD, which made a big difference. It's unlikely 2006's and 2007's differ a lot, so it's possible to run Linux with yours.

Did you boot with USB? I’m having some issues with Refind and getting Linux USB’s to show.

@@RobertMizen I presume you used a USB1.0 or 2.0 stick, and pressed atl/option and waited for Mint's EFI to load and boot. Another scenario you could try is created a bootable Mint installed HDD or SSD and swap the drive out of the Mac - I do it all the time. Get to its drive doesn't require to open the back cover; take out the battery, unscrew the metal strip and on the left is the HDD. At the end I only OS that gives it life is a Linux Distro. Lion's Safari will not load HTML5 pages.

Good question. Maybe but would depend if the servers to activate it are up. Perhaps ask that question in Reddit or someone all ready has I imagine

While I do not agree with your choice of operating system I do love that fact that a 18 year old laptop still being used. They did build those well.

@@RobertMizen some functionality works like wifi and graphic but the webcam,audio headphones and speakers and Bluetooth can't able to work due lack of drivers support i just rely on my usb stuff like usb cam, Bluetooth and usd audio to work it well.

Can’t really change anything. An SSD perhaps and maybe little bit of ram. But otherwise I’m going to take that comment as that “I have been upgraded” ☺️

There is some ways I’m sure. Just wasn’t my plan during this video. This is a MacBook (not pro) and perhaps with a dvd it can work. Or a different USB Boot.

I tried it but the high screen resolution on the screen doesn't support i better install windows 7 and the screen resolution can set to maximum resolution.
