Korean troops in the Vietnam War seeking out Vietcong and VC sympathizers.
I have no idea if this an accurate depiction of ROK troops in Vietnam, but the movie is an adaptation of a novel of the same title which was based on the experiences of a Korean Vietnam veteran who belonged to the White Horse Division.

The united states considered the ROK soldiers the best allied fighting force in vietnam. They had one of the highest kill ratio, the highest success rate, most tunnels found, the highest weapon captures, and second highest troop count (50,000 at it's peak.) I wouldn't mess with the ROK forces.

Then what the differences between soldiers of so-called for peace countries with their allies And inhumane serial killers/ terrorists anyways? They massacre people, all the innocent people for their "peace". Hypocrites!! And in the end, the only accomplished thing they're so proud of were how many people they killed?? What a sickening/insane world! They're literally beasts, not humans, they don't have that kind of human morality in them. And now people are praising them for their inhuman, I doubt the future of human race with brightness in it 🤔

Kim Ngân Diệm but tell me this, are any wars ever just? And are any actions in war justified? Soldiers carry out their duties to the end, it’s a job not a choice, when it turns to a choice is when they themselves will pay the price. The North Vietnamese was just as brutal and cruel as the Koreans were, it is never justified, it just must be done. One side must come out victorious.
@kimngandiem6476
@kimngandiem6476 3 жыл бұрын
Anthony Lee yes, all of our wars do serve a justifiable belief/meaning/purpose: is to free our country (from other control) - that why we won, we knew what we're fighting for, and our enemies is not (that's how simple it is). In all the battle, we show our enemies through actions our love for Vietnam, our belief to be free of invader, our determination to win it, our humane and goodwills too. So our acts in war is reasonable, justifiable, and suitable for wartime I suppose. That's the reason we got supports from peace lovers all around the war, not USA. When all parts of war, like you said, have their duties, and reaponsibities to carry on. Then how VC is the only getting all the blame for not having lost?? And why, on the other hand, Koreans being praised for killing Vietnamese people in Vietnam, an official country, without a declaration of war?? Even used the word "war" as an excuse is not relevant here, they absurdly come into my country (please do tour own research for more infos) , killed our unarmed people, and we are the one to blame 🤣 insane!! We're just brutal, cruel enough to shoo invaders away from my homeland, that's what you'd always get when you intrude into other houses illegally and with ill intentions. That's just show you how much love we give to Vietnam 🇻🇳, my country. First and foremost, we are human, we're all deserved to have life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. So anyone who goes against that must ready to be fought back constantly

This movie was made to represented the conscience of some of the soldiers who saw what really happened in the war. The move was made by Koreans and it was an honest portrayal that documented atrocities be it voluntary or involuntary and did not portrayed the Koreans in a positive light nor Vietcongs in the negative. It was very honestly and objectively done. In the end, the movie shows that war was not fought for the people or any ideals. It was just a game on a map for selected few % of those in power to gain advantage. The civilians caught in it as well as the soldiers on both sides who were given orders to go and kill were all victims.

Anyone who was in service after the Korean War till the 90s, knows how ruthless the South Korean military was (they are trying to repent for what they have done in the past in Vietnam). There is one concept that is very different in the ROKMC compared to other counterparts, such as the USMC. Fundamentally, South Koreans were embedded with this concept that if any of them were deployed, they should not expect to come back alive, however, take out as many enemies before going down. To install this mentality, they often did ruthless things to make sure that their marines were indeed crazy. In Vietnam, some ugly things were performed by the ROKMC such as execution of a Vietcong by slashing away at body parts and mutilating (much like what the Japanese did during Imperial and WWI & WWII periods). This way, the ROKMCs who were deployed saw the atrocities first hand and were given instructions to believe that their lives were literally over. If an ROKMC believed himself to be able to come back home alive, he had to become a savage beast and pretty much kill everything in sight (they were brainwashed by the prevalent military mentality in South Korea at the time). Hence, the ROKMC did some ugly things for which they still apologize to the Vietnamese people. They often took out whole villages and killed everyone including civilians, because the Vietcong had spies within villages and sometimes the villagers secretly cooperated with the Vietcong. For the ROKMC it was a pain in the ass to interrogate then get ambushed due to civilian villagers who were cooperating with the Vietcong. Therefore, they decided to simply kill everything in sight (including children, the Vietcong used children too). Furthermore, the Vietcong used very annoying and dirty guerrilla tactics which the South Koreans absolutely hated. There is a dominant image in South Korea that if you are going to fight, declare your intentions and fight face-to-face like a real man. But the Vietcong didn't. The Vietcong used booby traps and really annoying hide-and-seek cat and mouse tactics. This ticked the ROKMCs even more and they didn't even view the Vietcong as humans. Thus, for every ROKMC that went down, the South Koreans made sure to return 10x the destruction on the Vietcong, and unfortunately the civilian villagers as well. Instead of screening local villagers then getting back-stabbed, they started to group the locals as Vietcong (honestly, I don't blame them, because you couldn't tell who was and wasn't cooperating with the Vietcong and often times the local villagers even covered for one of their own who was a spy). This is where they went wrong. They went full crazies instead of being rational. When my dad was in the South Korean military for mandatory service, it was in the early 80s. The South Korean military was still pretty ruthless and inhumane even then. He told me stories about when, him and his platoon had to dig through their own shits in freezing winter for a grain of rice. He said that sometimes new recruits who made mistakes or did not follow orders were beaten to death by superiors by accident or whatnot, yet the government covered it all up with training exercise excuses. Usually, infantry at the lowest level were victims of this, because military service was mandatory and 90% of them were from poor families with poor educational backgrounds. Being a fairly smart guy, my dad knew what they were doing was to mold soldiers to believe that they were dogs and dogs obey their masters no matter what. Well, in actuality my dad had it pretty easy since he was a Seoul National University graduate. He translated English and worked next to a safe with 2 grenades. If the safe becomes compromised, he had to blow the safe with one grenade then commit suicide with the other...lol. The point is this. The South Korean military in general just had a fucked up mentality at the time. The country was poor and historically they had been harassed by the Japanese, Chinese, and foreign interests forever. In order for them to survive in the international community, they only looked at the economic interests and completely neglected morals. Such is the case with Vietnam. You think South Korea went in there merely from the request of South Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyễn Cao Kỳ? No we did not. President Park made an agreement with the US government and by sending South Korean troops, he would receive monetary compensation from the US, which he then used to improve the South Korean military. When the ROKMC were deployed to Vietnam, many of them already knew they were being sent there as body shields for the USMC to prevent public out-lash of anti-Vietnam sentiments in the US, resulting from the increasing dead count. There are accounts from former ROKMC Blue Dragons who have said, at the time of deployment, they knew they were not coming back, because their lives had been sold to US interest as body shields for the US military. Thus many of them decided that let's die fighting for our country's cause and basically annihilated everything in sight. The ironic thing is, the US did not expect the ROKMC to perform 10x the efficiency of the USMC, with less and inferior resources (they first arrived in Vietnam with WWII firearms until the US supplied them with M14s). I mean, 25:1 kill ratio as a whole Corp in one conflict is something unheard of. Apparently, the ROKMC were struggling in the beginning against NVA and Vietcong with their WWII firearms (maybe using an inferior gun for a long time and making a transition to better firearms improves accuracy significantly...who knows). After all the years of oppression, hunger, and victimization, the pent up anger was wrongly released to the Vietnamese people, and for that, I apologize as well. However, Vietnam and South Korea have something in common, which is that we both were victimized by the western powers and their ideological war.

Korean marines were embedded with the concept of just doing their mission. They didn't want to kill unless it was their mission to kill. The vietcong were so vast and diversely made up of women and children that the Korean army by that time had to throughly investigate each individual. There is one instance where Korean marines were doing a routine check on a house where a women was eating rice with her kids. However there was too much rice for the 3 people to eat. Knowing this the marines decided to ambush the VCs who were hidden in her home so they poisoned the food and killed 3 VC soldiers that came to eat it.

I have heard that there were also North Korean military advisers in the service of the NVA. Their presence there in the DRV, might have frustrated&agitated the ROKMCs even more, if they were made aware of this by their intelligenge officers. I dunno when they deployed, and in what numbers, but I read somewhere that atleast in the North Vietnamese Air-force there were North Korean pilots and others. At what stage of the war they allegedly entered the conflict I dont know either, but they were there along with PRC- chinese "volunteers", and some Soviets who worked mainly in the SAM installations around Hanoi and Haiphong. I heard as a kid from my uncle that the ROK troops were feared by the VC, and the NVA. When I visited Vietnam some years ago I went to a place were they dug up some stuff from the ground. Mostly very dangerous UXO work resulting in few "collectors items" I suppose, and lots of fake zippos, and you name it, but they had some real war souvenirs too. One item I bought, was a medallion made of somekinda non-corrosive metal. It is a claw shaped object with a hole made in it as in some dog-tags. Someone told me it was probably a South Korean soldiers amulet related to some unit. I have tried to find information and pictures of similar amulets of that time period, and found none. Do you happen to know what it is, or can you please ask somebody who might have been there at the time?. It might also belong to some former ARVN soldier, but who knows there were so many different units over there in those days. I would greatly appreciate any piece of advice, and your knowledge in general regarding this historical era.

South Korean marines had two objectives. One was to fight against Communists as a mercenaries of the United States. Second was to rape and kill innocent Vietnamese civilians. As a result, a lot of illegitimate children were born and abandoned by their South Korean fathers. They are known as Lai Dai Han.

Korean soldiers who participated in the Vietnam War experienced the Korean War when they were younger, or fought by themselves. So they were hating the communists. Korean soldiers who participated in the Vietnam War were 100% volunteers, and in their homes, fathers or uncles died or were injured in the Korean War and witnessed communist brutality. So they did not show mercy to the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese Army.

i realized some people here like fall from some where not the earth. They have no idea about history. WTH is VC, WTH is civilian? They are same, motto of VNPA is "Army came from the people" They do not have to recruit or force some one to join them. So many people turn them self from civilian to VC long time before American or South Korean step on their land. From the first, they are just farmer, hurt no one, but then ARVN came to their village searching for VC, and kill them right there. Some case is right, some case is wrong, but all lead to make people angry with that brutally, and they digging up weapones Viet Minh left before and turn them self to VC and fight back. Then American and South Korean come there and make VC have more troop by reply same misstake of ARVN before.

The reason why the Korean Government. decided to send the Army to Vietnam was that they worried the decision of the U.S. to migrate the U.S. Army in South Korea to Vietnam. It is not the problem of military power amount. Emigration of the U.S. Army from South Korea itself has a big international political problem, not just the military power amount problem.

Historically, S.Korean soldiers served in Vietnam as mercenaries and active henchmen of the U.S Army. They fought the Vietnam War for their American bosses to pay salary per soldier as S. Korea was too poor at that time. They caused bloody and deadly massacres in several central provinces of Vietnam. Vietnamese people with patriotic spirit only knew how to stand up to regain their right to independence and right to self-defence. They took up arms against the brutality and gratuitous intervention of S.Korean soldiers in their country like what the Koreans did during the Japanese facsist invasion of the Korean peninsula. All peoples have the right to legitimate self-defense when being threatened and attacked without cause. The Vietnamese did all they could to repel the illegal invaders failed miserably and fled in disgrace. Vietnamese people love peace and independence. We always respect our Korean friends if they respect us. However, it was a sad chapter in the relationship between our two countries and now we have been and are each other's major trading partners. Koreans have repented and want to build a strong relationship with Vietnam. We have similar history and culture. We stand united against the growing challenges from China. Should put aside the past and look to the future, don't cause division through movies with dishonest history

And lastly, Vietnam does not have the tradition to kiss other country asses like "some countries". We are neutral on foreign affair. We do not let China, Japan or USA manipulate our country no matter how powerful they are and no foreign army are allow to base in Vietnam. Alpha my friend, what u said is the reason why history need to be taught at school. I don't blame South Korean soldiers or asked them to say sorry. They were there because the SK government sent them there to earn money and benefit for their government. They came to VN not to save anyone but to feed their family back in Korea. The war crime of SK soldiers in Vietnam happened in Central Vietnam is fact, I did not make it up because it is recorded by the US, UK and Australian government. Aus and NZ soldiers were also in VN but they did not kill and rape civilians and tag their victims as Viet Cong. Again, i do not blame SK soldiers. They are people as well but the involment of South Korea in Vietnam is not a thing that young Korean should be proud of. And Vietnamese people are trying very hard everyday to get away from this bloody past of our country to be reunification and independent.

Some people say that Korea entered the Vietnam War for money. But all Korean troops in the Vietnam War are volunteers, and the money they receive is not enough to change lives. A wealthy Korean famous singer also participated in the Vietnam War. It means that Korean troops didn't just go to Vietnam for money. Think about the Soviet Union or Mao China at that time. Or see Pol Pot Cambodia immediately after the Vietnam War. At that time, half of Korea was taken away by such communists. Korea was poor and divided. Koreans did not want Vietnam to be like Korea. I don't know why the Korean government decided to join the war. Perhaps it is for money and to prevent the withdrawal of USFK. Would have even thought about fighting communism? Maybe, yes. Each Korean veteran really believed that winning South Vietnam for Vietnam War was right for Vietnam and Asia. It was believed to be helpful for the Vietnamese as well. This is pure cause. I'm glad Vietnam is not a terrible country like North Korea. At this time, South Korea and Vietnam have been partners for future prosperity.

First of all, Korean war was 1950-53. ROK troops fought from mid 1960s to mid 1970s I guess the background of the movie might be late 1960s, it was 10-15 years when the Korean war ended. There were many veterans who fought in the Korean war. The president, Park was former ROK general and coop leader who took over South Korean illegibly. Then, South Korea was military country, facing North Korean that South Korea I think that is why they were brave.

America sure as hell loves to forget one of it's most important allies. Very telling of the national character of America.
