I have pretty much came to the conclusion that every edition of D&D (or Pathfinder) after the White Box, is nothing more than a home brew variant of the original.

I know this is an older video, but I'm just watching it now. When you go over the morale check (under 2 to 12) I think it really is 2D6, but adjusted by the charisma of the PC who hired the hireling. The morale check is useful for monsters and NPCs. Just my 2 cents.

At the 34min mark.... you are right 2d6, and you are correct using character modifier (or DM discretion event modifier) it could be less than 2.

I know this is an older video, but I really like all your ideas while covering this book in your vid! Have you ever extended the XP charts per class? What might the numbers look like for, let's say, Single Save or Thievery past level 10? Or HP? Would they stop? Would the Thievery move to the next higher die type (d8) to make sure there's at least a measure of failure? Just curious for your thoughts. Thnx 👍

Honestly.... if they get any higher, i move the game into swords & wizardry complete. It seems like the reason it was created (an add on to white box) was because characters advanced outside the game. Swords and wizardry complete is white box + the 3 lbb (little brown books). It is excellent for fixing these caveats.

@@smugzoid5156 Cool 😎 👌 So you'd switch it over from the beginning, or once they progress past level 10 in White Box FMAG? The second one would seem like a tables and dice type oddity. If you retroactively switch it, then that'd work. I suppose also you could let them progress with a d6 towards a 5 in 6, and then switch them over to a d8 or maybe a d10? Thnx for the reply!

@@retrodmray I ran into this scenario a few months ago. To change it up, all characters had to reroll hp under new rules for it to work. So fighters were 1d8 + con bonus per level. The thief's and magic user's hp actually dropped to a 1d4 + con bonus per level. So... an 10th level fighter was 10d8 +10 if they had a con of 13+, and a thief was 10d4 +10 if they had a con of 13+. D&D is a mystical goddess that gives with one hand and takes with another.
