So you did a vid on how to start with a trio can you do how to start wit a pair
@ChickenWired4 жыл бұрын
Excellent question. With a pair what I would recommend is to breed the initial pair, then a cockerel back to the original hen and a pullet back to the original male next year. Then the third year, breed a pullet again out of that original male back to him, a cockerel out of the original hen to her, a pullet out of the first year's cockerel back to him, and a cockerel out of the first year's pullet back to her. Ideally you will want to go back to the original source of your stock within a few years to get some more blood to help widen the gene pool. Otherwise what you are doing is just adjusting the percentages of genes (in theory) within each broodpen. Hope this helps!

Where on earth did you get your white crested cuckoo polish??? I've searched everywhere and can't find any other than 1 breeder in the U.K and they don't ship to the United States. I'm in Oklahoma.
@ChickenWired3 жыл бұрын
I've been breeding mine since the early 2000's. Original hen came from a guy in Michigan, then a heavy dose of blood came later on from a lady in Florida, both no longer raise them. Will have some available come fall that I might be able to send with someone to your area to a show.

@@ChickenWired Thanks, after squaring the internet I found 1 small hatchery in Northern Florida Called Greenfire Farm that sell them at $30/day old unsexed chick, but there sold out. Still, not planning to buy any until summer 2022-fall 2023. I may be interested in some of yours how much do you charge?

@@ChickenWired Oh! I see your in MN, I just moved from MN and have relatives there! Currently my grandparents are taking care of my chickens for the next year or 2, but when I get them back I'd like to get some White crested cuckoo polish from you! I also am going to get some from greenfire Farm, but would like to have multiple bloodlines if possible to reduce the effects of in breeding and line breeding. What's your pricing?
@ChickenWired3 жыл бұрын
@@bellaheineman5383 Greenfire is in the market of selling birds for high prices just cause they're imported. the white crested cuckoos were developed in the U.S. , exported abroad, then imported back by greenfire. I can guarantee you two things on my prices, one is they will likely change in the next two years and two that my prices on adults will be close to what greenfire charges for day old chicks. best way to expand the gene pool is acquire some top quality w.c. blacks to breed to whichever cuckoos you end up with. what part of MN is your family from? I'm in the southwest corner.
@bellaheineman53833 жыл бұрын
@@ChickenWired Yes I heard that about greenfire. We're from about 25 miles north of Minneapolis, I'd guess depending on where exactly your located two and a half ish hours away.
