I think the “ point “ of this scene wasn’t political . My takeaway was having lots of power , authority , and money , comes the true “colors” of a man . And the racial part was also “Part” of the scene , but only added insult to injury concerning human behavior , and attitude . The fact that the real “man” that took up for the underdog lost the fight - showed even more of an impact on the overall takeaway of that part of the story . We , as an audience can actually apply this and learn something as a result . Peace ☮️

@kevinmalone32106 жыл бұрын
This film was loosely based on Hollywood director John Huston and his film project, shooting the movie, The African Queen in Africa in the early 50s. It is from a book by a screenwriter named Veirtel played by actor Jeff Fahey who worked on the movie alongside Houston. The film, The African Queen that Huston directs comes to a halt when he decides he wants to go on some kind of hunting expedition to shoot a bull elephant. The film bombed at the box office, but critics gave it favorable reviews.

uh, the entire movie is about John Huston, the man who directed African Queen, which is what they were there to film. Huston was no hero.
@russellbrown70287 жыл бұрын
I've always thought of the character as an amalgam of the more unpleasant Hollywood directors (Sam Peckinpah is another example), though it would seem that Clint Eastwood was definitely no great fan of John Huston at a personal level. To nail an exact biopic of Huston would have required a much less sympathetic actor than Eastwood, and if that was the intention, possibly CE should have looked for a real "heel specialist" to play the lead. Bruce Dern is one guy that comes to mind straight away.

@jamesdunn97146 жыл бұрын
Gusto. What you state is true, however the fight lasted an hour at a Hollywood party given by David O. Selznick. And Huston gave as good as he got, busting two of Flynn's ribs and beating his face badly. Both men went to the hospital. Huston was picking bone shards out of his elbows for months.
The funny thing is, when have you heard someone get punched, and all these sounds happen.
