When I saw the title, I was excited for a review of a classic. I enjoyed the original quite a bit. Had no idea there was a remake. Maybe I’ll rewatch the original as this one does not sound great. Regardless, love these guys so much, would watch them review pretty much anything.

I’m really over the movie industry trying to remake everything that already exists such as this movie and many others like not necessary and it’s kind of a insult to the people who were in the first movie. They could have used all this talented actors and actresses in this movie to make a whole new movie and storyline. Remaking grate movies is really silly at this point and very annoying.

Like I liked the original and even at times thought Woody Harrelson was cute, like I could see why Rosie Perez would be attracted to him; I don't feel the same about Jack Harlow lol and Wesley's relationship was good too. Like the stakes felt real in the original. This one, ehh from what it sounds like they should've just left the original alone.

I think a remake with a modern touch was a good idea, unfortunately this movie is just plain ass I couldn't even finish it. Not funny, not good, not entertaining, literally one of the most boring movies I've ever watched in my life.

Exactly. I like to think of the original “White Men Can’t Jump” as part of Ron Shelton’s “Has Beens or Never Weres” trilogy, along with “Bull Durham” and “Tin Cup.” Snipes, Perez, and Harrelson’s characters are perpetual adolescents. They were all on the verge of something big, but for the most part, couldn’t stay out of their own way, and suddenly they’re in their late 20s and early 30s and realizing their teenage dreams are over and bills have to be paid. The scene at the start where Snipes is gloating about how great he is, then gets called over by his wife to learn he doesn’t even have enough in the bank to cover a check for groceries is a great subtle “back to reality” moment. However, they all still think they’re just a couple of big scores from turning things around. And through the course of the movie, they get dragged just a little bit closer and closer to finally growing up (they’re not all the way there at the end, but they’re finally on the journey). I feel like Ron Shelton put a lot of himself in WMCJ, like his sense of aimlessness between the time he gave up sports and found direction as a writer.

Sounds as bad as I expected, unfortunately. I love the original & the odds were very, very slim that remaking it would turn out well. I didn't know Kenya Barris was involved. I loved Blackish but You People was so mediocre and not funny or touching at all. So blah for such a talented cast. I did really enjoy watching your review, though! You're both very thoughtful and made substantive observations, glad I found you. I'm going to go watch the original movie, lol.

the one part i’d say y’all missed is the wats scene is a call back to the first movie where billy and sidney hustled, and the guy pulled out a knife, then went for his “other” gun. That’s why they hopped the fences and used the flame thrower as a call back. It might not be dangerous, but it was for nostalgia purposes.

There are less white men in the NBA today around 15% then were in the 90s about 20-25% so a white guy with NBA talent is still very rare which does not make it dated even though we know white guys can hoop but less of them at the highest level. So it's still relevant to make the assumption, (not saying it's right, it's just numbers), it would be a different movie if you casted something else because the stereotype is the title of the movie.
