It's crazy how I'm laying in bed in a completely dark room listening to him and I can picture exactly what he's talking about. This man was an assassin with details.

This was cathartic. I was in my 20s when he was doing Somewhere Out There. Living in LA. The starving artist life. Etc. I miss him so much. Would love to to hear what he would put together for these incredibly different times.

I was blown away first time I heard him when I was living in Venice and by chance tuned into KCRW while hungover on a Sunday morning. I immediately became a devoted fan and sent recordings to friends around the world, who were equally blown away. A true master at his craft.

Finally!! Joe Frank's brilliant work is on the tube... He is one of the most brilliant story tellers/writers ever. I've been following him since the early 90's. This is the first episode I ever heard, and I was hooked. Never looked back. Flew to L.A. to see him at Largo in the mid 2000's. He performed "Just an ordinary man" while I sipped many Tanqueray and Tonics. I met him and chatted a bit after the show. He was so humbled that I had flown from Florida to see him for my birthday. I was dumbfounded to meet my idol, my guru, my... I miss you Joe.

@@JoeFrankOfficial Hello @Joe Frank Forever: I've been a subscriber for many years. Thank you for uploading. I have a big collection of cassettes that I recorded back in the 90's too. One of my favorite shows is "At The Border". I have both cassette and CD copies of it. Any chance the episode will be uploaded in the near future? Thank you.

@@KarmaNinja69 I have a collection of dozens of cassettes that I BOUGHT in the Nineties (most of them in 1991). It's pretty much all in my brain now, long since. Not sure what to do with all those cassettes. If anyone cares, maybe we can work something out.

It's pretty amazing when you realize that Joe was turning out work like this week after week, year after year. I can only imagine the effort and dedication it would take. I would be happy if I could write something like this once a year or even at all.

And then imagine that it was all done before Pro Tools / computer editing. Joe was a master tape cutter. And the music loop was literally yards of tape hung around the studio looping over and over. But, as Joe admits several times in many shows: he had no social life. He worked all the time. I can attest during his last five years, he worked every day. Even during his stays in the hospital.

@@JoeFrankOfficial would you care to share which are most meaningful to you?
@JoeFrankOfficial
@JoeFrankOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
@@briananderson5102 The ones meaningful for me are primarily based on when Joe and I first met and our experience together. We met during the end of The Other Side series. Meaningful for me: the Karma Series, esp. since I got an inside look from Joe about what the stories were based on (with Kate - all true). As mentioned, our relationship and what we shared working together makes some shows more meaningful. Joe and I collaborated on all of his shows for "Unfictional" (Old Man is a standout along with A Life Well Lived. The latter, Ryan and Joe recorded here at our place. At the end, Joe couldn't hold back his laughter at what Ryan was doing (it was the kind of laughter where you can barely breathe - you can barely make out Joe's laughter, but he was doubled over, turning red. Joe was going to cut that. I convinced him to leave it in, and it still makes me laugh. I still return to listen to those two programs. They are excellent.) Also, I produced his live performances and collaborated on scripts. Off the top of my head favorites include "Too Close to Home" (which always brought me to tears in different parts, despite working on it and listening dozens of times), and "Murdered by the Mind." Others: Men of the Cloth, Terminal, What do Women Want, Endings. Thanks for asking!

The bank manager described in this story is eminently reasonable - and THEN he finds the dress code that specifically forbids Joe's invisible man getup. That is a JF universe & reality crystallized into one bit!

Joe was also an exceptionally good music mixer. I've been listening to the music genre ( cant remember the name) where they sample several artists and combine it into one tune. This and many other pieces of his work is just as good as them and sometimes better. Wow!
