Absolutely loved your review of this book. I have it with me. But, some people said reading Dostoevsky is difficult, so wasn't sure if I was ready for it. But, after watching your review, I think I am ready to pick it up. Thanks for this rec.🌻📚

Wow!! Such an articulate review, I have recently backed off from reading novels. However, your elegant retelling of the book has motivated me to read novels. Thanks a lot, madam!

Thank you for the recommendation. I have a lot of D. to read as Crime and Punishment is my favorite book. The Idiot is also one of my favorites.

There is a Visconti movie adaptation of this novela, and it is very beautiful. For me, both the story and a film are masterpieces.

There is an Indian movie adaptation also. I came to know about the story by reading the cover of the CD, didn't know Dostoevsky back then. The movie did not do well in the box office but it debuted two star-kids of Bollywood.

@HajerahUmar I have no idea. Sow it long time ago. Have a dvd, but from the internet. Think it's possible to find.

I am new to Dostoevsky and decided to start with Demons
@ReadADayClub24 күн бұрын
Wow, jumping straight into Demons is a brave choice, I must say. Dostoevsky plunges deep into the darkest corners of both society and human nature. I remember reading it back halfway through back in 2019.... it was something else!

I'm Russian. I believe that Demons are more important for Russia than Crime and Punishment. Also, some points in this book may be difficult to understand without context. By the way, the word "kumar" in Russian means "chill"

The stranger and then move on to Myth of Sisyphus, most of his work is easily accessible but these are the most recommended starting points

Don't you reckon that the story has underlying themes of loneliness, of this deep human yearning for companionship? And then Bollywood just took this tender, gentle breeze of a story and turned it into a loud, lurid, over the top romance in the form of "Sawariyaan", sigh!
@ReadADayClub24 күн бұрын
Yup, it has that quiet, unspoken layer of loneliness permeating the entire story, from start to finish. Also, I had no idea that the movie was based on this story! Never even have seen it. Don't think I want to either, to be honest. But I'm still curious to see how Bhansali chose to adapt it.

@@ReadADayClub haha, it's forgettable at best, for instance, they made Ranbir Kapoor, the protagonist perform a rather cheeky, frivolous "towel dance", absolutely destroying the essence of the character, on second thoughts, I reckon it'll still be an entertaining watch for shits and giggles:p
