Very usefull! Good job! Thank you for this test. I have used 3 types of these paints already before watching, but some of them mostly with airbrush. Was also surprised with coverage of Mr.Hobby Aqueous. I'm using a lot of Mr.Hobby paints with airbrush, but not water-base line and they have a good coverage and fine pigments.

Thanks. Paints are particular to each color, but this helped a lot. I was trying to use Vallejo, and very disappointed. This confirmed some of my frustrations. I'll probably try Tamiya. I may also try Revell. I wonder what the results would be with different acrylic water based thinners. Vallejo's paint characteristics must come from the medium. I imagine other thinners might offer better leveling.

Revell ,Citadel, and Tamiya are a good choice regarding the whites.

Very interesting demo. I think my choice would be Tamiya, Revell Aqua and Citadel. In each case for brush painting I use the 5 point strategy or atleast started to following 1) Use a decent brush 2) Use Retarder 3) Use Liquitex Flow Improver 4) Use relevant Thinner 5) Right paint above. For the acrylic paints as above upto now it has worked reasonably well but not a match winner yet. Still testing out. For Enamels a decent brush, thinner, right paint and I believe you can now buy Enamel retarder surprisingly. Not tried on the Enamel side yet. The trouble I seem to have is when brush painting I end up covering the fine panel plates and lines on aircraft. For example an ME109 and ended up stripping down and airbrushing the port starboard top wings again. So I think I too I'm going through the experimental stage but I believe the above is a good starting base. Also just touching on primer first and cleaning the model and brush before following the points on application thanks.

I wanted to gret a sparmax airbrush kit but domt think it would be the best idea as i live with my parents and the only really room i could airbrush in would be my bedroom and im geusssing that wouldnt be a good idea as dont they creat alot off airborne particles i havent built an aifix since i was a teen and now in my mid 20s i have a spitfire to build planning on using tamiya paints for the simple reason is they have a nice range off coulers seen so mucth hate about tamiya paimts in the industry ive never realy built a kit properly tho never primed amd only ever used cheap paints

Tamiya is not good for brush painting. Use water based acrylic paints if brush painting. It's not a good idea to airbrush in a bedroom. At least use a spray box, a mask with proper filters and open the window if you do so.

Hi! I don't use enamels. I included it only in this test. Most of the time I use water based acrylics like Vallejo Model Color or Revell Aqua. They don't smell at all. The most stinky tools I use are probably the glue and the putty I use. I simply open the window while working with them.

For some reasons every time I try painting with Tamiya’s XF-2 flat white it just looks very rough, does that mean that I should have thin the paint down with thinner instead of water?

Don't put water in Tamiya acrylics. They are alcohol based paints, not water based. Use Tamiyas thinner X-20A to thin their acrylics.

Nice test! Other whites- AK Interactive, Ammo by Mig, and Kimera. The last is a hobby paint, typically used for miniatures, that features pure pigments (important for color mixing, kind of irrelevant to models) and high pigment load (the good part). They're kind of a hybrid of artist grade acrylics (think the creamy, heavy body) and hobby paints like citadel- the real advantage is the pigment-rich mixture. Check around KZbin for some mini painters using them. They demonstrate how the high pigmentation allows you to thin Kimera paints to an absurd degree (helps with brush strokes, I suppose) without the paint 'snapping' (e.g. getting splotchy as a result of critically low pigment/binder/medium ratios). One could also improve the hobby acrylics with a drop of flow improver (liquitex) and/or drying retarder- helps keep brush strokes to a minimum from the outset and the ones that do show up, tend to not dry as the retarder buys time for the paint to level out.

Thanks for the info! I haven't heard about Kimera yet. Will check them out. I have a set of AMig paint. They are a disaster. At least for brushpainting. Retarder/flow improver is a good idea. Will try those in future.
