Rode this a few times and a couple things worth mentioning. 1.) You need a day permit to use White Rim Trail. It is free to obtain, but they are limited. 2.) This is in the National Park. So you need to have a park pass or pay the park entrance fee. Also must be on a street legal/registered vehicle which you mention. It's also pronounce "pot - ash" or paa -tash, lol

Nice! I 4x4 the White Rim at least twice a year, every year. Much respect to y'all on 2 wheels. All I can add is, at the pace you're going you miss so much of the area. Best thing to do is make White Rim a 1 or 2 nighter and explore more, or just chill with the views. One day to get & out is just for an Instaglam Post.

Road the Schaefer trail two years ago during Covid on my KTM 350…about 70 + miles that day…ran into a fellow motorcycle that was broke down at the bottom of the switchbacks…he was on the same motorcycle…it wouldn’t start…I had a tester and turns out his neg ground wire came loose…tightened it down and off he went

What a beautiful track. Just got a KTM 790 adv for a ride from LA to a place like that and camp on the trail. I'm a little scared of the heft of the bike. I ride KTM300XC mostly with a KTM450XCW. that is plated.

You’ll love it. This ride on a 790 will be great. If you’re a big guy you may want stiffer springs if you add heavy weight to the bike

Travis, great video! I have built an EXC-F for just these kinds of rides. The white Rim Road is on my list for this year. Unfortunately, I'm still waiting on my Get ECU from Mike, that is the last part of the full work up. Awesome video. I rode White Rim Road / Trail back in 1999 on my DR350-SE. Watching your video makes me want to ride it again, this time I'd do it on my 450 EXC-F. Have you considered a Scott's Steering dampener for your KTM? It's the first mod I did to my KTM.

I don’t like stabilizers at all. Older bikes did need them but with currying I feel it’s not needed for the riding I do.

@@EverySingleSunday FWIW (not much), "back in the day" (~2005) I deconstructed a KLX 300 trailbike after looping it out badly on a steeeep hillclimb and it did lots of flipping and flopping down the hill. Lots of things bent, counterbalancer broke in the motor, so total mess of my little trailbike. I put a Stroker built 365 motor in it, full KX suspension swap, new dog bones, then tuned the whole mess with custom shim stacks and progressive spring w help from an ISDE Silver medalist/shop owner. I added a Scotts stabilizer to the mix. I preferred the short wheelbase and lower height of the bike for technical riding over a modified MX type setup. I also had a Beta 280 trials bike at the time and I just preferred small/lighter bikes. Over time, I improved my crappy riding to where I was running away from my buddy in technical and rock garden sections. He is a lifelong single track High Sierras trail rider and serious MotoX guy - and better rider than me by a bunch. So it was kinda weird. Than I crashed and bent the crossbar down badly on my Renthals, and took the stabilizer off as a result. In the next few weeks, new Protapers, no stabilizer, and I became crash prone like never before. Was it me, or was it me lacking the help from the stabilizer? I'm not quite sure, but I put the stabilizer back on, and quit crashing. So...an out of date anecdote from not much of a rider, but maybe worth a thought. Sometimes you hear; "I didn't know it was helping until I got used to it and then took it off."

Yes it would have been great in the 790/890. I would have actually preferred the bigger bike but I really wanted to ride this since it was new still.

What gearing are you running on the 500? Headed to Moab in May and will be doing the White Rim on my 2014 EXC 500 with the 3 gallon Acerbis tank.

Stock gearing on the 22s is a bit lower. Came with a 48 instead of a 45 out back. I’m running the stock gearing that came with this bike

I’ve ridden White Rim 3 times, twice clockwise, once counterclockwise. Rode 2-strokes (plated) each time. It is a very scenic loop, but can become monotonous after a while with all its overwhelming scenery. Have met rangers on the trail several times, they often patrol on motorcycles. They check for plates and entry fees. By the way, the speed limit on the “road” is 15 mph. Laughable, but we have been pulled over and chastised before. Once back away, we get back up to 6th gear speeds. 😉. The new rules for permits and limited group size are a pain in the a$$. It’s why we don’t ride the loop anymore. I always had big groups back before those rules were implemented. Argh!

Which directions on the loop is better? Clockwise or counterclockwise?

@@chrisdempsey3860 I had no preference. Both ways are scenic and can become monotonous. Clockwise gives you the early option to descend into Lathrop Canyon and there’s also a natural bridge to check out early on. Counterclockwise you go down by the Green River early on. I don’t recall one way or the other being more or less technical. Enjoy.

Yes they make bladder bags for fuel for ATV riding all the way up to 6 gallons I think but you could get a 1 gallon to a 6 gallon ratio I just say get a 3 gallon and use as much as you need or feel as much as you need for your trip

It’s MPG not MPH-- miles per gallon. Also, jeez, you carried that gas the whole way until you ran out? If you would have filled the bike every 20 or 30 miles or so the gas would have not been on your back more than a couple of hours. Upon returning to Moab and filling the bike at the gas station would give you the total gas used. Mileage divided by gallons used equals MPG. One tank of gas plus one gallon plus final fill-up equals total gas used. Multiply one tank of gas times your new found MPG equals the distance traveled until you are dead beside the road. Use your spare gas sooner not later, your body will thank you! Also talk to us more ,we like your commentary as you ride….

Did I write MPH at the end of the video? And it wasn’t a full gallon of gas. I left some room so I cloud compress the bottle a bit incase I landed on it. So, unfortunately I had to run it out to get the full range unfortunately. It was something I planned on doing once I was already on the trail. I don’t plan this stuff out enough
