This species was introduced to Hawai`i from Malaysia in 1931 and again in 1940. It is established on Kauai`i, O`ahu, Molokai, and possibly on Maui. The black tail with white tips is longer than any other songbird in Hawai`i. Many consider the song of this species the most pleasing of all the Island's songbirds. It is particularly vocal near sunset and at sunrise. It can get quite habituated to people in backyard gardens.
