At 1:04:50 that dead greenback is a sure sign of Yellowtail in the area. Sometimes they are not hungry but their predator instincts make then attack a flylined mac but not swallow it, so there is no line run. The mackerel is dead or dying and has No cuts or even missing any scales. Have had it happen many, many times over the years fishing La Jolla. Sealions, Dolphins, Calicos leave big cut marks or steal the whole Mac (because they have teeth, Yellowtail do not have teeth) . That WSB was a Toad!

Appreciate you going thru your arsenal during the intro…gives perspective. I have that same Okuma Reel, I love it. I know a lot of us love going thru our gear on a random day or the day/night before a fishing sesh. Great glimpse of your fish cave & how you’re rigged up!

That has to be every bit of 55lbs! Awesome to see you guys out there fishing with the basics - nothing fancy, just hard work and dedication.

Heres a fun fact Mike. Back in 1982 i used to cliff jump there in La Jolla the big patch of grass by the shell shop with the inside stairs to the water. Was fun and dumb back then. 😆 Love your channel and i live in Utah now. Be safe always, Dan

Striped Bass are here in Oceanside in large numbers if you ever want to give it a go… Just to get that bait a little deeper use a 1/2 or 1/4 ounce slide sinker on your leader, let it hit the hook, nose hook your bait like you do…keeps it natural and away from the birds

Yo I’d love to get on some striped with you

Hey Mikey I watch you all the time. Always GREAT CONTENT! We gotta get you out on Justin's boat in Long Beach my man! He is crushing it at the island and he goes live for the all-day fish bite on Starlink. It is epic out there and he is a great Captain and CA Guide. I am in SD as well and I head up there for his boat. He just came back with 50 pounds of meat on the deck!

Dude you want quality fish get out of the open ocean. Go out at mission jetty head to point Loma kelp beds. Get your ass in the kelp and cast up the lines of kelp. Scampi rubber with a rubber shirt at the head. No one goes into kelp beds everybody's scared like dummies. I used to put a razor kelp cutter on my motor. Get out of the open ocean. Get in the kelp beds. The kelp is lined up and you have casting lanes. Get it together dude.
