Unfortunately he only owns a slight majority stake in the Bulls, it's run by an ownership group so even if he sold his share they'd probably still pinch pennies and just try to make the most profit rather than trying to win.

Nobody is paying a Chicago price, and the value of a franchise in Chicago might be worth close to $1 billion in asset value, to move it to a smaller market, and the Nashville area is smaller than the Cleveland one. They would be lighting hundreds of millions of dollars on fire.

MLB wont allow White Sox to leave the 3rd largest market for a smaller market in Nashville. That would be bad for the league. They want a Nashville expansion team with an expansion fee of $2 billion.

@@DaveG60134 I respectfully disagree. The White Sox portion of the Chicago media market is still larger than the entire Nashville market. MLB will not allow this to happen considering a) it’s an overall bad business decision and b) the White Sox are one of the original charter members of the American League. Weirdness can always happen so I will never say never but common sense usually dictates that MLB will not allow the White Sox to move.

I don't imagine he would sell the Bulls. His sons are interested in running the Bulls, but not especially the Sox. The thought was always that Jerry wouldn't sell the White Sox while he was alive, but conceded it would likely happen after he died. Plus, the Bulls are an ATM for the family in a way the Sox are not.

It probably be best to sell the team to a more motivated owner, but moving the White Sox, would be a travesty. Most White Sox fans would not flock to the Cubs, or where you move the team. MLB would lose those fans all together. Where the stadium is currently at. is no longer a viable place to go and spend money to see a game in today’s economy and doesn’t help when the team has been this bad of late.

The big picture is every Chicago team could use a billionaire hobbyist owner. A Steve Ballmer. The times are changing, they need to keep up. The Bears could have used one for years. The Cubs finally won another WS with kinda one, and could use a richer one now. The Bulls and White Sox could use one because for years now Reinsdorf hasn’t cared about doing what it takes to win a championship. Not sure it matters for the Hawks, tho.

The team isn’t moving. Jerry Reinsdorf hates us and wants to stick it to the fan base. The value of his asset has skyrocketed while he invested nothing into it. It’s because the MLB in general has skyrocketed in value. I do think he’s selling which is why he doesn’t care anymore. The team won’t go anywhere.
