One is President Sheridan calling the Ambassadors of the Nonaligned Worlds to watch as the Whitestar fleet defends one of the worlds that had been dealing with raiders. The other is. Delen and a fleet of Whitestars taking a beating from one of the races left behind by the Shadows, only to turn back, regroup and destroy those that came after them.

I like to imagine the look on their faces when this mystery ship, which blew up several fighters and a bomb years ago and then vanished, suddenly shows up out of nowhere to blow up a Centauri blockade. Considered one of the most beautiful ships in Sci Fi. The Minbari Whitestar Class is a different breed of ship. Emphasis was made on the "whole ship" concept and with the fusion of Minbari and Vorlon technology, this ship is possibly the most formidable warship ever fielded. Containing exotic bits of Vorlon technology (shields/bio skin/learning computer) this vessel is extremely powerful for its size (about 475 meters) and carries about 150 crew. This could be Babylon 5's answer to Star Trek's Defiant Class. The Whitestar is the smallest ship to create it's own hyperspace entry point (Power equal to a Stargate or a very large starship). It is far more maneuverable, often cited as being equal to an Earthforce Starfury fighter in maneuverability. And carrying enough firepower to take on an Earthforce Omega Shadow X Battleship, or a Centauri Primus Class.

people slate a lot of the B5 CGi but they made effective use of what they had and unlike most of the other franchises the support ships and fighters MOVED around instead of almost always being part of a slugging match. reminded me a lot more of the battlestar galactica (OG series) than any of the other 90s sci-fi which all pretended at scale but rarely showed more than 2-3 ships at any time.

Stuff like this is why I'm REALLY curious just how powerful the Modified Earthforce Destroyers were in season 4. Those things, upgraded with Shadow Tech, take on, and BEAT, several White Stars in a straight fight. Yes, they lose eventually, since the White Stars outnumber them, but given just how powerful these ships are, in makes me wonder if President Klink really could have taken over the galaxy with them.
@DarkAshenfall Жыл бұрын
The thing to keep in mind about the B5 universe, while there is a tech tier, most aliens were actually very close in power level to one another. Aside from the First One's/Vorlon/Shadows. There was also no shield tech. Meaning every hit taken is felt. Theoretically, the Human's were capable of destroying Minbari vessels without too much of a struggle, but they lost so badly because the Minbari used a stealth tech that prevented Earth ships from locking onto them. The differences between the races came more down to small levels in weapons tech, other tech like the Minbari's stealth tech, or numbers. That taken into account, the Shadow-tech Omega's while advanced, weren't actually all that more dangerous to the Whitestars than any other ship. Plus Ivanova was reckless and not wanting any to escape. If she'd played it cooler, the Whitestars probably would have lost fewer ships. The Whitestars also did suffer losses against normal Omega's. The reason Whitestars were so good, was because of their speed and for their size, packed the kind of firepower usually only available to much much larger ships. The show was inconsistent with it at first, but a Whitestar was capable of taking out a Shadow vessel on its own, so its firepower for its size is more powerful than basically anything else at the time. They, however, were far from invulnerable. Relying heavily on speed to stay alive. Which, as the show displayed, worked most of the time.
@SageofStars Жыл бұрын
@@DarkAshenfall This is somewhat true. In fact that's one of the only reasons the younger races CAN fight the Vorlons and Shadows during the climax. Their ships are more destructive, but not necessarily too great on the defense. It's what allows six of the First Ones to take out that one planet destroyer, despite obviously not being as powerful. That said, do like the point about the Mimbari Stealth Tech being a big game changer. As JMS stated, that one piece of technology decided the war, as without it, Humanity would have been the one laying siege to Mimbar, with us simply out producing them as our ships can be built faster, and we have greater numbers than them. That being said, those Omegas take a huge amount of damage, more so than the Battlecrab class Shadow Vessels. Of course, as Springer in Transformers: The Movie says. Knocking em down's not the problem, it's gettin' em to stay down that's the trick, as while the Battlecrab was disabled faster, it took a lot longer a concentrated blast to actually destroy it.
@DarkAshenfall Жыл бұрын
@@SageofStars While I don't want to seem disrespectful of JMS, I do feel if that is what he actually said about the Human's, then he is clearly selling the Minbari short. I stand by what I said in my prior post, but the Minbari were no pushovers. Humanity would not have steamrolled them. At the very most without stealth tech, it would have been a bloody knock down drag out brawl. And the Omega's were no tougher than any of the other species ships. Gotta remember, the only time we ever saw them fighting was against each other. We never actually saw them getting hammered even by the Mimbari or any other species. Only against other Human ships. The Shadow vessels are actually very hard to take down. Now the show was a bit inconsistent at times, but in most scenes, it usually took a Whitestar or two, plus another major capitol ship all blasting at once to destroy a Shadow ship. And each ship had to continually fire. No breaks. Strangely, we never saw how the alliance fared against Vorlon ships, but I assume the same would have been true. Since the Vorlon's were on par with the Shadows in tech level. The First One's were not weaker than the Vorlon or Shadows. They were actually far stronger. It was expressly stated to be the case. That is why Lorien said they needed to be gathered up as allies, because without them, the battle would have gone very differently. They were needed to help bring the Vorlons and Shadows to the table. Otherwise, the two had become so consumed by their own moral superiority, that neither would have listened.

While the CGI doesn't, the story & politics of B5 hold up and made even more relevant these days, it is still unmatched even in the era of the Expanse (which is a different kind of sophistication). But one good thing about the use of CGI is that they are mostly tailored to the episodes. Star Trek models while great often reuse a lot of the footage because their major battles are rarely important to the overall plot. IT is very glaring especially if you watch DS9 back to back. B5 on the other hand, most of their major battles are named and fought very differently, the events are detailed, plot relevant and the CG are tailored accordingly, they almost never reuse footage just because all the ship involve are the same.

@biocapsule73113 жыл бұрын
@@aycemanm8151 Yes, I am very excited by the idea of a remake by Straczynski, wouldn't be as excited if it was anyone else. As for the Expanse, it really depends on what attracts people, the 2 shows are complex in very difference ways. It's kind of like the Martian, very good movie, the book is kind of dry. The Expanse is likely the best adaptation of a book series to TV. It is fairly close to the book in the most relevant areas, both are great personally but the book significantly more detailed on almost every aspect. The commonality the 2 universe share is likely the details of world building, except Expanse ranges from either a lot more low tech hard sci-fi to god tier old ones, then B5. And focuses heavily on how the system works. Think B5 but only in-depth focus on humans, because there are no 'others' that isn't alien to the point of incommunicable. It is possible that you might like the book and not the series. I would say that the Expanse is actually one of 2 book series I know of with the most realistic depiction how space battle should work (even when there's very little of it), and that's not even the area it excels in. B5's battle are well tailored for it's plot and has some great ideas, but it's perspective of the scale of 'space' still works like cinematic space opera.

i dont think it necessarily matters as we see in another episode a group of earth destroyers and cruisers abandon B5 after Delenn appears with some Minbari ships. Those earth ships form the jump points behind them as they spin about to leave. I see the advantage of opening a jump point directly in front being to simply get into the vortex quicker, but if theres an angry enemy directly in front of you, or an angry delenn warning you to come no closer, turning and departing is a safer move, just open the jump point behind as you turn then leave
