The marching band I was in was HBCU-inspired, and it was probably one of the most fun times I've ever had in my life. The music, the dancing, breakdowns, the training... everything about it... high school was so much fun because of it!

As a former band kid with a white band, I can't tell you how excited we get to see these kids in the black band groups doing their thing. Oh no! I been in a white band and it's worse when the black band goes first because after the black band perform the white band goes and people starts going to the concession stand. I've never seen a stand so empty when the white band goes to perform after the black band. This goes to show that the black band brings what the crowd needs for the rest of the game.😂😂

This is so accurate. As a black kid in a predominantly white marching band, I used to so look forward when we played the football team of a black marching band. We were playing “cheeseburger in paradise” meanwhile they were doing “Thriller” and splits at the 50 yard line🎉 Also our band was banned from playing the very song in this clip (black marching band part) because it got us too hype

I grew up in a medium sized old “Mid southern” (central NC) town with two high schools. Andrews and Central. Andrew’s had been the “black school” during segregation and even in the 90’s was still predominantly African American. Central was the “white school”. And our bands would all but battle it out during our annual Christmas parade every year… you knew Andrew’s band was gonna be AMAZING and everyone would dance and it was going to be a good time. The annual “grudge match” football game between the two schools was epic too. People would come back home from outta state. It was what we did Friday nights… go to the football game. The first year you’d be allowed to go withOUT your parents??! Life changing.😊
